Left Over Body Parts

From a rather marvellous selection of medical teaching slides, this unlabelled mystery body part seems like a suitable choice for Halloween. If you recognise this part, or even wish to have it refitted, please get in touch.

Bonus - The most evil pumpkin of all time.  Damn. Now Private.  OK Extreme Pumpkins

Bonus - But seriously, horror dildos. REALLY NSFK / NSFW

Where "It" Happened.

The nameless dread.

The unspeakable acts.

The overpriced tickets.

THIS is where it happened.

Bonus - Undefeated Bridge Champion of the World (Suggest muting the sound, unless you love dubstep noise pollution.)

Bonus 2 - I laughed like a drain at this - does that make me a bad person?

A suitably creepy slide for Halloween week. Perfect for annoying the Christian Fundamentalists.

Cavemen and Turks?

As I have mentioned on several previous occasions, the Americans love parades, but this 'ere one has me a little befuddled. The fezzes make me think this is some sort of Shriners type brotherhood...but cavemen?

Perhaps someone out there can educate me on this, or on where in the USA this was taken.

Bonus - The interesting facts of why penguins can swim so fast.

Fort Randall Dam, July 1953

Just a moment in time.
It would be fascinating if a blog-fan went there and took a picture from the exact same spot....subtle hint there.

The Bears of Bern

No info on the slide, but something about it looked familiar.  A search of the SlideGuy noggin, and I realised it was Berne, and the bear pits there.

I recall visiting it/them many, many years ago, and the bear pit was as depressingly crappy as the picture suggests.  Nowadays, the Bärengraben has been extensively refurbished.

It can be very relaxing.

Restoration

Yes, it's badly exposed, and blurred. However, it does highlight a moment in time for one of the world's most famous artworks.

I assume you recognise it.

Pretty Girl Opening Garage Door.

"Pretty Girl Opening Garage Door" was one of the seven basic poses in the 1954 Kodak Guide to Photo Composition, but as time progressed, the years passed, and certain poses fell out of favour. Now, it's a rarely used photographic composition, and ripe for rediscovery.

Cute Puppy

Meet Mr Fluffikins.

Well, that's his human name. Amongst other dogs, he is referred to as "Gorlock, Destroyer Of Worlds and Leaver of Small Piles in the Kitchen".

(Sorry for the late posting. Life....don't talk to me about life.)

Bonus - Not something you often see on a gravestone.

Ghost Ship Storage

As well as the usual supernatural aspect of the name, Ghost Ships can also refer to vessels such as these. Decommissioned (or "in reserve") and tied up awaiting scrapping or restoration.

I've often fancied exploring a derelict such as this, but I've seen enough Horror Movies to know that that's a Bad idea.

Bonus - No particular reason

The Glamour of Cruising

Not every cruise ship gets to be a glamour-filled pinnacle of sophistication.

Here, Maynard and Greta Fischer pose for a slide on the SS Honeywagon, the pride of the Anglo-Ukrainian Shipholders' Fleet. Every summer she cruises round the Caribbean  and every winter is spent as a Navy Torpedo Practise Target.

Bonus - From the Roger Melly Profanisaurus. Allegedly.

Ummm Alaska?

Tedious Tuesday, and another so-so slide that teeters between being boring and being an accurate representation of a remote corner of the world.

Obviously, it can be both.

From the colourfulness of the buildings, my thought is Iceland or similar Scandinavian areas. However, knowing how little Americans travelled in the fifties, I reckon it may be of Alaska.

Bonus - Ah.  So it's not just me... (CFB)

Creeping around at the beach

This little fella seem quite at home on the beach, scampering up n down trees and generally eating flies. An idyllic live, until he gets eaten by a seagull.

Bonus - I really have no idea what this is all about.

"Ready for my Close-Up, Mr deMille"

Three young girls, on a beach, one topless, a cameraman (with a passing resemblance to R Crumb).   I'm having to resist making a Jimmy Savile comment at this point.

Bonus - Speaking of Mr Savile....

View From The Empire State Building, 1957

From a marvellous set of a family's trip to New York, this slide is a favourite - even if just for the look on this girl's face.  Also, tho' there was no info on the slide, my suspicion was that the slide was taken from the Empire State Building, and a little Google-Fu suggests that it was, and that those are The Chrysler Building and Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge (the 59th Street Bridge of the famous song.) in the background.

No date, but this slide seems to hale from Lansing, which is in Michigan. Apparently.

Another American Street Parade.

Pensive Pete

There's always space for another moody male portrait. Peter is a 23-year old, church-going apprentice cadaver shaver from Westboro, and is looking for a lifetime companion (female, obviously) to share his basement and his love of vintage western barbed wire.

Bonus - I am Chad, The Scourge Of Plastic Bottles in The Neighbourhood.

The News From Russia

Oh Boy.   This brings the memories flooding back.

Mid to Late seventies, in the evening, if the weather conditions were just right, I'd tune into Radio Moscow.

Ah, the delights of hearing about record-breaking tractor-production in Belarus, or the progress of the Trans-Siberian gas pipeline, or the news of the arrival of the Angolan Communist Party Friendship Committee in Petropavlovsk.    Heck, they even had a weekly stamp collecting programme.

STAMP COLLECTING on the Radio !      And they say that Brits are the eccentrics.

Bonus - The key to selling your house is decluttering the house to let others see the potential.  Unless you're these folks ...

Autumnal Sunshine

What a crackingly good sunny day we're having here in Slideville. Warm outside, with nary a cloud in the sky. So, why am I indoor, posting on the blog? - Man-Flu.     Thus, I'm clearly close to death, but still trying to satisfy my thousands of followers with this slide marked "Wyalusing Park Wis (Prairie de Chien) 1956".

Well, maybe not thousands.  Dozens ??      well, technically nope.

Bonus - Ummmm     I thought Pokemon was for kids...

The Toledo Gospel Saxophone Quintet

This nearly made it onto the 2013 Slide Guy Calendar. Nearly, but not quite. It just wasn't quite right, which might give you an idea of what quality you can expect for the ones that did make it past the cut.

The Ardingly Rally, 1971

Ardingly Rally was the entirely unsuccessful follow up to the Nuremberg Rally of 1933. Rather than thousands of fervent National Socialists, the village saw the arrival of a fleet of historic vehicles.

And Mrs Mavis Sneech, in an ethnic print dress that she picked up in a frightfully chi-chi boutique in St Trpoz, dahling.

Close up of the rally brochure below.

Dark Remembered Hills

Tedious Tuesday is a bit of a tradition round these parts - slides that just lack that spark of emotion.  However, I do also include not-great technique slides, in here, even if (like this one) there are some redeeming features.

Here, I'm sure the view in real life was spectacular. However, as a slide, the camera just can't come with the contrasts, and the all-round grandeur of the scene. Better if you were there...wherever it is. (Lincolnshire ?)  Nice cloud formation.

Bonus - Possibly from House on Haunted Hill

On Holiday !

Yay !

I'm on holiday.

Days of lazing in the sun, building sandcastles, climbing hills.

Or maybe Drink Drugs and Dozing.  Tricky Choice.
