Arabian Magic

Yes, Americans love dressing up and parading for dubious reasons !

At least, I assume it's Arabian Magic. Maybe it's a poorly spelled Caribbean Magic.

Telegraph Poles

This was just going to be another "Tedious Tuesday" slide, when I noticed something interesting.

The Street Lights.

No, really. Have a look at them. A latticed construction with integral telegraph / telephone line fittings.

Extraordinary !

Bonus - Have a hearty singalong

Dr Smith unpacking Aug 1963

This is the note written on the slide. Who this Dr Smith is, and why he is unpacking is unknown.

However, the book shelf does have a copy of "The Naked Lunch", so he may not be entirely wholesome.

Bonus - The Obligatory Easter Monday image

Your Easter Bunny / Ham / Inflatable Nightmare !

This might have been this year's Easter Calendar Image, but for a distinct focus issue and a LOT of image dirt.  Apologies if your insulted b having second rate  slides, but... I don't care.

Easter Kids

Seems like a suitable image for Easter Friday.  A slide from the days kids would be dressed smart for their Easter Parade.  And touted guns.

Bonus - Splash-Testing the Lunar Re-Entry Vehicle.  Awesome.

Gordon Pomlett

Another one from the "Ode to ode Gordon Pomlett" set.

This would appear to be the subject - a a Mr Gordon Pomlett, on the occasion of his retirement from British Gas in 1974.

Bonus - Creative Recycling.

Mrs Edith Gravett - and Mr Ruffles.

A rare peek outside the front door for Mr Ruffles, an ill-mannered mongrel kept captive for many years by Mrs Gravett.

And the same could be said of Mr Gravett, who took this picture.

Ummmm I Dunno.

Sometimes I happen across an abstract slide image, and have fun figuring out what it is.

Today, I'm stumped.

Suggestions and thoughts may be sent to the usual address.

Bonus - Strangely fascinating.

Yes, I'm an equal-opportunities blogger.

Yes, I post pictures of nice ladies in swimsuits, but I also post slides of men n swim shorts.

Just not as many.

Teenage fashions are about rebellion and self expression.
Teenage fashions are not about wearing hideous baggy plaid shorts that make your parents looks stylish.

The Station

What a marvellous building. No idea of where it is (as usual) but it looks an ideal fixer-upper, tho' a little bit Gothic.

Speaking of which, here's the bonus trailer for Psycho. Compared to modern film trailers, it's quiet distinctive.

The Red Telephone Box

Nice to see a reminder that the United Kingdom is not the only place with iconic red telephone kiosks.

The background seems to feature the "Toy Wan Restaurant". A bit of surfing suggest it might be this place. Despite hosting a Democratic Party fundraiser for Bobby Kennedy in 1964, the Toy Wan seems to have disappeared.

Bonus - The remarkable story of  Tokelau and The Internets.

Bonus 2- Cats !!!

Well .... That's Dull

Today's slide.  It's,  well,    dull.

To The Max.

If it wasn't for the fact it's from Russia, and dates from 1985, it would rate as Spectacularly dull.

Bonus -  To make up for that ...

An Early T-Shirt

An undated slide, but it looks old, and that's supported by the look of the subjects.  Early 1950s, I'd estimate.

But the sight of a bloke(?) in a patterned T-Shirt surprised me. I would have associated printed / patterned Ts with the 1960s and later, but Wiki suggest that they were around in the fifties.  I live and learn.

Spirited Away

I wonder.

I wonder if this shrine was the inspiration for the fantastic animated movie "Spirited Away".

Probably not, but perhaps.

Bonus - RIP Ken Adams. I'm sure many movie buffs will know of his work in production design like Dr Strangelove, James Bond and The Madness of King George. However, reading his wikipedia page, I was impressed by his war-time activities.

The Jumping Maasai Warriors

Seen here between leaps, the Maasai warriors are famous for their displays of jumping.

Bonus - The US Constitution has 27 ratified amendments. There have been many many more suggested ones. Some are rather....unlikely.

I Was Churchill's Frog-Boiler

OK.

Blog post title is completely unrelated to this poor-quality-despite-restoration slide.

The title emerged from a discussion at work of "Autobiographies I'd Like to Read".... but an excess of coffee seemed to affect me.

Nice to see Maude on the monument.  Ummm again

Spitfire PR XI

OK. Not the best quality slide ever, but appropriate for the date.  Yesterday was the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Supermarine Spitfire.

This is the Photographic Reconnaissance version, recognisable by the larger-capacity deeper oil tank under the nose made necessary by the greater duration of the long-range reconnaissance flights.

I believe this slide is of this aircraft.

Weddings and Fashion

Research into wh people visit this blog has revealed some interesting facts. Most of the responses were unintelligible, but amongst the drivel were two facts.

  • People Like To Sneer At Wedding Photos
  • People Like To Sneer At Women's Fashion

So, today's slide of Brian and Cheryl's wedding satisfied two populations. :-)
