Big Sky Country

This may not be Montana (but then again, it could be Montana) but this definitely seems like Big Sky Country.

Nice, but....not particularly interesting.   But, freshly scanned for your consideration.

And when its wings envelop you, give in to it,

Love Excerpt from the Prophet by Khalil Gibran
From the batch of slides I scanned yesterday.

Picnic at Antelope Valley

This lockdown means that I have fewer excuses to avoid looking out the old scanner, and scanning some more of the backlog of slides. If I do 100 per day, then... gulp.

This slide, in a large box-full, with a posting date of June 2011, is labelled "Antelope Valley 4-16-83", so the blog title seems appropriate.

Today I learned that Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve State Natural Reserve exists, and yes, does seem to be the location of this slide.

Corona Bonus - The surprisingly interesting story of the N95 face mask, which has featured in many many images from the current pandemic.

Bonus History - Spanish Flu, 1918. Family Portrait with Cat

Dudes at the Lake

Yes, there was a time before the Covid-19 Lock down (it was only a week ago), but there are great recollections of a time back when a family could head up to the lake for some boating and fishing.  In the above case, it was October 1961.  Nice.

Bonus 1 - Thor Bjørklund invented The Cheese Slice
Bonus 2 - Percentages and Pie Charts.   This is not how they work.

Looks like a stylish hat will be essential.

Another day of WFH

Day Twelvety of working from home...and the novelty is wearing off.

So,why not exercise your mind, and see what you can deduce about this man, and how he is normally employed.

Clearly, there is a facial resemblance of L Ron Hubbard of those wacky old, Scientologists ... tho' this may be a relation rather than LRH himself.   But what of the items in the background.  Why would someone have a bowl of Sump Oil on top of their clothes dryer?

Sherlock Holmes would have deduced the facts in seconds, but...you have 15 minutes.

This is Me, Working From Home.

In response to very nearly one request, this is a selfie of me, working from home due to the current CoronaVirus lockdown.

As you can see, the facial fuzz has gone, and my usual "Work-Day = Tie-Day" outfit has been abandoned. Just be grateful that I didn't photograph "Naked Thursday".

More selfies in the future. Feel free to post your own WFH Selfies in the comments.

Cat Meets Cow .... Cow Meets Cat

I bet that they had so much to talk about.

Bonus - The kids asked what was for dinner and I told them "Scraps". They started crying. Spoiled brats, it's really hard to get food at the moment thanks to the panic buying.
And it was a stupid name for a dog anyway.

Practicing Social Separation

In these Covid-19 Panic Days, do as Old Man Colville does - practice Social Distancing.
Always stay a sensible distance from everyone else.

  • Have two drinks close at hand - don't get dehydrated.
  • Possible have a joint on the go.

Meditation in the Forest

Another Covid-19 day of panic - and today, I started working from home.

It was so tempting to just head off into the woods to just sit and think. But, I'm too professional (?) for that.

Blah, Blah, Blah ... Coronavirus.

Seems like every website, blog and forum that I visit is obsessed by Covid-19, so I was wondering if I should follow the herd and tailor this post towards the world-wide pandemic..

Nope.  I'm going to resist that urge today.   Maybe tomorrow.

So, today it's a mom feeding her kid. I guess this was before "Breast Is Best". It may appear that I've 'shopped away a ciggie from her scrawny hands, but no. That's just how she is.

Bonus - Interesting The Man Who Saw the Pandemic Coming.

It may sound like an edgy comedy webcast, in the vein of Rick and Morty, but it's actually a summary of two things in this above slide.

Bonus - Murder Of The Nonagon Fuzz.  This make me happy.

Beach Casting

I very nearly skipped past this slide, thinking "Blurred and Out-Of-Focus".

However, it does give the photograph a wonderful artistic, painterl, vibe.  And I like that.

The Finnish Bride and Groom

Written on this slide was

Helsinki Wedding at Underground Church Jan 87

...and who am I to disagree.

I always find it odd when I encounter single slides (like this one) in the midst of a horde of unrelated slides (in this case, most of the rest were Golden Gate Bridge and lava fields.)

I wonder to my self - did they really only take one icture of the wedding?

Bonus - Yes, Helsinki Underground church

Bonus 2 - The world may be reeling from Covid-19, but some brave folks are still attempting the impossible.

At Play In The Garden of Goulden

Yesterday's slide was fairly dull, so I really had to dig deep for a suitable Tedious Tuesday slide.

This one, fits the bill. It's from a set chronicling a family's day out at Goulden Manor, in July 1975.

I suspect that should be Gaulden Manor, but I blame the photographer.

Bonus - I suspect that many of you have seen videos of cats on robotic vacuums (or even Grumpy Cat on a Roomba).   However, there's something about this one that's .... different.

Monday 9 March 2020

Daffodil Season

Spring is coming.  My rhubarb is well above ground, and the daffs are beginning to bloom.

So, this slide seems timely.

From the same set as the previous two slides..so I'm tempted to say that this is the the family of the photographer, inside of the Jackson Bridge.

But I could be wrong.

The Jackson Bridge - Again

After yesterday's slide brought an avalanche of very nearly one comment, it seems only natural to post a second image of the Jackson Bridge in Indiana.

And here it.

Will there be another slide tomorrow?

Tune in on Friday and find out !

Bonus

Wednesday 4 March 2020

The Jackson Bridge

Not one of the Bridges of Madison County, but a covered bridge in Indiana.
Info

The purpose of the covering is to protect the wooden structural members from the weather. Uncovered wooden bridges typically have a lifespan of only 20 years because of the effects of rain and sun, but a covered bridge could last 100 years.

Interesting / Not Interesting

This is one of those Dichotomy slides.

Interesting: From the sequence of slides, honest hard-working locals ("Yokels") gather to see a school of fish (Carp?  Bream?) in a feeding frenzy.  Definitely interesting.

Not Interesting - Muddy water with something at  the surface. Not very interesting.

Bonus - Music Revenue History.

Monday 2 March 2020

No, Not Coronavirus Clothing.

Nope.

Despite the current coronavirus outbreak, we are not seeing CoVid 19 memorabilia.

And this is not protective clothing.

This is just an old slide re-titled for some cheap news referencing.

Bonus - Tho' I did laugh at this.
