Feels like Spring has Arrived

Last day of April, and finally, it's beginning to feen like spring has arrived at Chateau Slideguy.

This slide seems to echo how I feel.  Trees not yet in leaf, but blue skies and sunshine. Yay.

Slide is labelled "Pandy  Henllan", so some where in Clwyd, or similar vowel desert area.

"When Our Carol Got Married..."

"ay, she looked all reet.

That Norman Wickerstaff turned out to be a bit of a wet blanket.  After the divorce, he went off to share a flat with a Hairdresser from Leeds, if you know what I mean."

Bonus - It’s illegal to burn a body in a floating boat anywhere in the U.S., and a single town in Colorado is the only place in the country where you can legally burn a corpse on a dry-land funeral pyres.

The popular conception of what are commonly called “Viking” funerals – a flaming longship – aren’t historically accurate anyway […] “They (Vikings) were more likely to drag the boat ashore and burn it on dry land with the chieftain’s body and his possessions inside, or just bury the entire boat without setting it on fire,” Pray told Cowboy State Daily.

A Little Tug, Mrs Mac

What can I say about this slide - A little tug-boat, and on closer examination, it appears to be called Mrs Mac.

So, obviously, I hie thee to www.tugboatinformation.com (I bet you think I made that up) were it has more info of that wee boat.

A Slide So Tedious...

...that even posting it upside-down doesn't make it any more interesting.

Bonus - Whereas, when it happens with a Mondrian...

Sunday 23 April 2023

At the end of the day ....

...there are some very very nice slides in my collection.

Circumstantial evidence suggest that this is in the Lake District, and some time in 1968. But, I could be wrong.

The Days Before Quadcopter Drones

Back in 1980, radio-controls model planes were very much the domain of geeks and obsessives.  Nowadays, any little scrote can fly their drone, spying on neighbours and annoying the NIMBYs.

Progress.

This slide is marked 1980, Les and Wynne with Gangster 52

The Lord's Prayer

In the midst of a box of slides marked as "Halley's Comet and Family History" was ... this.

I'd be surprised if it was part of the Halley's Commet discussion.

Deputy Councilor Marge Broomfield resisting the urge to strip off her sensible twinset, and go skinny-dipping in Ogbrook Reservoir.

Look. David's On The Telly

Tho' to be honest, it's a small tourist repro of Michelangelo's statue of David in Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze. (Florence).

Actually on the TV screen is what seems like an advert for a MIL Marquis Farm Tractor Front Loader.  My all-time third favourite tractor front-loader attachment.

The Gym Bunny

Views of this Blog have been slipping lately. (No exact numbers, but under 200,000 view per day!) so let's try and boost the numbers with a picture from one of the "request access from the librarian" sets.

A stereotypical model Gym-Bunny. Bethany, I think  Nice.

Lovely "Big Hair", and I bet that she's wearing leg-warmers as well.

Bonus - Mystery Girl of 1947

Oh, a clean world of elevators and concrete and steel.

Simultaneously better and worse that what we actually ended up with.

You're 'aving a Giraffe

...is inauthentic Cockney Rhyming Slang for "You're 'aving a laugh". An expression of disbelief, in response to outlandish statement.

The slide, however, is a highlight from a box of "American Zoos" slides. This compound is a vast improvement from the literal cages that some exhibits are confined to.

Bonus - Coincidentally, my trawl of random images netted two other giraffe pics this month.

The Grey Skies of Easter

So, that's it.

Easter 2023 is past.

Patches of sunshine, ending with grey clouds, hailstorms, thunder and chilly winds.

Must be a metaphor for life.

Mrs Murphy, Mrs O'Keef and a Spondulon-87 Robot

One for you Star Wars fans today.

Mrs Euphemia Murphy and Mrs Harriet O'Keefe, keep their distance from a prototype Spondulon-87 Gate-Guard Robot, as seen  when Darth Maul returns to Nabboo, in Star Wars - The Phantom Empire.

Euphemia and Harriet were First Aiders for that movie.

Bonus - Headline you didn't expect to see at Easter. "Dalai Lama apologises after kissing boy and asking him to ‘suck his tongue"

Bonus 2 - Further annoying the Christians...

Salt Creek Bridge

Any day is a good day to visit the Salt Creek Bridge, near Muskingum, Ohio. but Good Friday?   < Chef's Kiss>

Actually, this slide is dated (processed) October 1962, and seems to depict some sort of organised visit to the area. No idea why. The bridge in the background doesn't seem that interesting....and not even a covered bridge.

More info here and yes, I know that the interesting bridge is nearby.

Bonus - To mark the passing of Ryuichi Sakamaoto

Thank You for Choosing To Travel With...

Diego Garcia's Super Mega-Luxury First Class AutoBus Experience.

I remember buying this on 7" vinyl from Bruce Millers, on Loch Street, Aberdeen.

Wednesday 5 April 2023

Statue of some dude.

From a monumentally dull set of slides, marked "Cultural Trips To Europe".  And it was full of art, and architecture, and scenery and ... yawn.

Before you start decoding the clues in this sculpture, let me just say "Achilles Innocenzo Ferito Fraccaroli 1805-82 Milan "  was written on the slide.   So that answers the obvious question.

Bonus - sorry. can't be bothered
