Dying Gladiator, Kahl of Potsdam

Yes, written on this very slide is the description... Dying Gladiator, Kahl of Potsdam.

However, it doesn't seem to match any "Dying Gladiator" statue in Google's archives.

However, it MIGHT be a statue in Killruddery House, Wicklow, Eire.

Anglesey? No, Bandol

It might be an easy mistake to make ... in theory.

Mountains, harbour, sea, boats. It could be Amlwch, but the lack of acres of Static Caravans, and the lack of grey misty weather means that this is actually Bandol, a commune in the south of France.

I'm Back - From Benllech

Exciting News - I'm back from a long weekend away.

What?   You didn't notice?<sigh>  Well, I did keep posting.

Yes, I was in Anglesey for a ..umm...damp weekend. And ending with some VERY stormy weather. So, here's one of my few pics, in a rare patch of sunshine.

The Inept Paparazzo

Faced with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (Donald Trump cavorting on a yacht with a naked Velma Dinkley and shell-less Leonardo Turtle), apprentice Paparazzo Hamish McTeagle made a tragic blunder.  A 28mm wide angle lens rather than  2800mm mega-telephoto lens.

The result.... this tragically dull image.

The Babyshed

It's one of those Yorkshire Traditions that has all but died out in the 21st Centry.

In Rotherham, poverty meant that married couples would often live with one set of parents, until they had saved up enough of a deposit for their own property. Inevitably, space was tight.

When the younger couple had their first child, the elder parents would build (or pay for) a shed in the rear garden, whether the young 'un could be placed for overnight, and their crying would not disturb the adults.  The shed, however, could be used for other activities, such as racing pigeons or ferret breeding.

Here, we have Grandparents Mavis and Harold Ottewill, their daughter Phoebe, their son-in-law Albert Grimsdyke, and grand-daughter Blossom.

Hilda's Ethnic Hat

There's nowt like having breakfast outside, when you're on holiday, and Hilda starts the day perfectly with some eels-on-toast,  black coffee and a a locally-sourced stray hat.

She's looking forward to wearing it to the Country Club when she's back at home .... it's bound to allow some boasting of her foreign travel.

A Flock of Hefferlumps

It's not what you expect to see as you drive through the UK's countryside. However, the isle of Anglesey is home to the UK's only wild, free-roaming herd of elephants.

It dates from August 1917, when a captive herd kept in the Duke of Menai escapes from his estate, and found the countryside to their liking. Wartime manpower shortages meant that they weren't rounded up quickly, and by the time the war ended, the herd had established itself in the local's heritage. So, meh, let them roam, was the view. And they still do.

Cars and Balconies

Guess what. No info.

OK, the slide was marked with "1984", but I can't actually easily figure out where this image was taken.  America probably (from the cars) and possibly the southern states (the French-ish architecture) but other than that...nowt.

The sign on the wall...too little detail to read it. That logo...distinctive, but...nope.

So, it's a mystery.

Hopper-esque Tedium

While this slide does have some Edward Hopper-ish touches, and the blue patio chairs are rather funky, this slide is very tedious.

I have nothing more to say on the subject.

Bonus - Wrong. VERY wrong.

Drop The Pop (Corn)

Don't ask me .. This slide from 1958 (?) shows a rather elegant young lady, eating and dropping something on the ground.  A quick zoom in one the packaging confirms my thought that is is probably pop-corn.

enhance 7-3-8
But, why?  Attempting to feed some hidden chipmunks?  Caught mid-sneeze and having dropped some nuggets?  Trying to lure a wolverine out of it's hiding place under her skirt?  I really don't know.

Bonus - YouTube is weird. You find some very odd collections.

Oh...Heavens Above.
