The Snow Birds

Day Three of the Beast From The East (or is it Day Four?...) and the ambient temperature remains "Brass Monkeys"

The snow?  O man. The snow must be 2.0 mm deep - drifting up to 7 mm in some parts of the city.

So, have some vintage birds, in a snowy environment.

Nice.

Solid, stylish and rather easily overlooked.

The Big Day !

Not a wedding, I suspect. (THo' possibly some sort of redneck, couins marrying.)
Maybe a Confirmation, or similar.

But someone isn't very happy with the event....

Bonus - Art in Nature

Bonus 2 - Every wonder wonder why aubergines are called eggplants?  Because...

The Meccano Bridge

No info on this slide.

But the scene is rather pleasing, and the bridge is rather interesting.

Either made of Meccano, or maybe bamboo.

Bonus - Trout Mask Replica

Bonus 2 - Because ... Insurance

Teen Fashion 1957

Curious.

This much be the year that trendy young teens were dressing up to look like grandmothers.

A real passion killer.

"No Heavy Petting"

"Hello Ladies"

Yes, it's a bit dirty (in the dust and scratches sense) but what a marvelous slide.  And for a change, some context.
1954 Calif Hot Springs

So, that's nice. Two hot babes from 64 years ago. Alas, California has many hot springs, so I can't be sure, but this could be Calistoga Spa Hot Springs

( Not Tilt Shift )

Nope.

Tilt–shift photography is the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene.

This, however, is a  genuine slide of a model railway.

I'm glad I could help.

A Snowy Scene

Phew.

Just spent four days with the Egyptian CAA, so this slide seems oddly inappropriate.

A snowy scene, somewhere in England.

Nice.

"...and this is us, on the way to the beach..."

"....and you can see the hotel we stayed in LAST year, in the background, and it had really tiny beds, so we didn't go back this year, although this year's hotel wasn't ideal as it had this strange (BANG)"

You can imagine the tedious evening spend looking at a friend slides, with tedious descriptions.

It's enough to persuade a man to turn a man's mind to murder.

A Nice Place for a ... Oh!

Yes. It should be a nice place for a picnic - Trees, grass, dead quiet ... yes, it could be lovely.

...and yet...not very suitable.

However, it' the smirk on her face that really worries me.  What has she done, or what does she know?

Bonus - The zombie apocalypse - rendered in Lego.

Trouble and Strife

Good quality slide, no??

well, there's no photoshopping or mucking about with contrast or colours.  Which makes it all the more remarkable that this Kodachrome Slide is 75 years old.   No, really.

This slide is marked "Jack and Elaine", and is dated 1943. I have to imagine that as Ensign Jack heads off to war, he and Elaine decide to get engaged...thus this slide.  I wonder what their story is...

Bonus - When it rains in Malta...

Bonus 2 - Europe with placed named after saints.

The Short Bus

Reizen de Buck (or The Buck Travel, if my rusty Dutch is correct) still seem to be in existence.

The mini bus, however, is probably history now. Scrapped and recycled as coke cans by now.

(Hmm, My Rusty Dutch - a fine name for an Indie guitar band.)

Bonus - To cheer us Tamas, who is unwell, have this excellent costume.

Bonus 2 - This Is Not A Parrot.

The Onion Harvest

Another half-frame slide, so apologies for the slightly lower quality.

But, what a Harvest !   That'll help stem the tide of French Onion Johnnies.

Bonus - Sadly, Dennis Edwards of The Temptations had died.  His voice was to the fore in (possibly) the best single EVER. (Yes, this is the LONG version.)

Friday 2 February 2018

One Little Indian///

I shall call her Hiya Watha!

Don't worry about the black border  - I'm not indicating a deceased person.  This slide was taken on a Half-Frame camera, so I thought is deserved a slightly different cropping.

Bonus - Hearing impaired dancers performing Thousand-hand Bodhisattva

Bonus 2 - Gay Bob (SFK)

Meanwhile, in Old Budapest....

This is one slide that might please one of my Hundreds (and Hundred) of regular readers.

I believe that this is a picture of the first Starbucks in the Old Quarter of Budapest. Built in in 1276, it has been serving coffee since before the discovery of America.

Since building, the garish painted purple and lime green adverts for Starbucks have faded, and the building seems rather plain now.

Such was the fame of this original Starbucks building, a near exact copy was built in Avignon, France.

Bonus - Anti urination devices in Norwich.

Bonus 2 - Be part of a university investigation. How well do you know the sizes of countries?   (I scored 80%)
