Some more ... Folk Dancing

All I know of this slide is a date - March 1973 - but after extensive research I'm prepared to wager almost 20p that this is not an exhibition of the Argentine Tango.

Almost The End Of Summer

It's the last Saturday in August, so summer is almost over.

Hope that you, dear reader, have had a pleasant time, and  enjoyed your holidays. Maybe heading somewhere as restful as shown above. The slide only said "Summer 1988 Italy", but it's not difficult to recognise Sirmione, Lake Garda. Here

So, her we are in ... Stoke -On-Trent...

...with the little clay flower pots that let Stoke gain it's nickname of "The Potteries"

But I might be wrong.

Nope

If you saw this slide image and thought "The Colosseum, in Rome."

Nope.

It's Arles Amphitheatre (in Arles, France)

And I think this is the photographer's location.

Bonus - The Pastry A.I. That Learned to Fight Cancer

In Japan, a system designed to distinguish croissants from bear claws has turned out to be capable of a whole lot more

Cherry Blossom

Sounds like the name of an OnlyFans artiste, but no. Flowering Cherry.  A tree or bush.

And quite a tedious picture of one.

Bonus -

Actually, Donnie, we don't.

Bank Holiday Bathing Beauties

August Bank Holiday here in the UK, and there's an uncharacteristic bout of warmth and sunshine to enjoy.

So, back to the Seventies with Glenda Slagg and Gwendoline Grubb, posing on the beach in their cossies.

Robin on his Rocket

To his parents, it was a Raleigh Flipper Junior (with optional stabilizer wheels).

To Robin, is was a Rocket, zooming around the deepest extent of the known back garden, in the constellation of 84 Waterloo Crescent, Hove.

A Grand Day Out

From their clothing, these seem to be some experienced wanderers showing some Learners the ropes.

Today's lesson is at Potters Bar Train Station. Possibly mid-seventies.

Under The Watchful Eye of Mother

Fun in the Sun for Bertie and Clara.

Bonus - Sorry...in a bit of a rush today.

The Lavender Roundabout.

The interesting thing is ... this is from a box of slides from a trip to Russia. In the early 1980s (?).

And it's probable not really a traffic roundabout. Or lavenders.

People who claim that they could
fight a grizzly bear ... No.
No you couldn't.

A Day Out With Grandma and Grandpa

A perfect activity for a summers day in 1970.

And, unless I am mistaken, in the background is the statues of Pluto and Prosperine, an infant triton on a winged horse, and tritons and sea creatures, in the Fountain of Pluto and Prosperine in the grounds of Waddesdon Manor.

Bonus -A woman called me ugly until she found out how much money I make.

Now she's calling me ugly and poor.

Bridesmaids of the "Punk" Era

The slide is stamped as "4th November 1978", so rights at the peak of the explosion of Punk music. Rat Trap by The Boomtown Rats was at Number 3 in the UK Singles Charts, Public Image by PIL was at Number 9, and the top twenty featured Sham 69 and Buzzcocks. Heck, at number 40 was Ivor Biggun and The Winker's Song.

Yet, outside of that punk bubble,  in the general public, fashions changed slowly. Especially for Bridesmaids and ...gulp... Bridegrooms???      ...and Summer Nights by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John was number one.  A weird time.

The only info on this slide was "Dello".

So, just enjoy the image as an image.

The Ferry Ride

Another batch of slides scanned today.

Kodachrome, cardboard mount, rad back. So, probably early 1950,

Nice.

Big Sky Country

No idea if this slide is of Montana, but that sure is a big blue sky.

The cars are ... of the era, to be sure.

Bonus - "I think I've been bitten on my bum," said my wife, bending over and pulling up her skirt. "Can you see it?"

"Oh my God!" I said. "It's absolutely massive!"

"Is it?" she replied.

"Yes," I said, "it's going to take a while to check."

The Potter at his Wheel

Curiously, this potter's name is Larry.

Larry MacDonald, so he's not the inspiration for the popular wizard, or THAT book series.

Composition No. 86 - Confluence

As in Confluence Between Tedious Tuesday and Bad Photography.

History does not record the name of this "artist" - most likely they were taken outside and shot, and erased from history.

Well-deserved, IMHO.

Bridge Over Untroubled Water

This image shows Windsor Bridge, also known as Windsor Town Bridge, a historic iron and granite arch bridge that spans the River Thames, connecting the towns of Windsor and Eton in Berkshire, England.

Obviously pre-1970, as that was when it was pedestrianised.

And nowadays

Event at Wastwater

I like this slide for its old-master painter-y style.

From a set of slides that seemed to show some Geography Field Trips to the Lake District. This one is marked as April 1977  and Wastwater.

Saturday at the Beach

Today, in an odd spare half hour, I scanned in another bunch of slides. Crazy, I know.

They were from a box, date stamped as 2009...yikes... but these ones had very limited info, but were the classic vintage cardboard Kodachrome slides. What little was written on them dated the slides to 949-1952.

And this was one of them.  No info, sorry, but I'm guessing USA.

Time for a Small Cafe

Another from the Beryl L Blood collection, this time featuring someone who I presume is "The Husband".

I'll refer to him and Doug, in the absence of an actual name.

Here, Doug enjoys a small cafe in a small cafe. In Bandol. With Rene the waiter.

Beryl Hits The Beach

Another images from the Beryl Blood collection (as seen of TV !), here we have the presumptive Beryl Blood hitting the beaches of Italy in the sixties (I guess)

Some rather bold fashion choices there, notably the raffia work waste paper bin repurposed as a sun hat.

So Unfashionable That It's Fashionable.

Wow.  Those are some bold wedding fashion choises.

The Grooms wide lapel suit, kipper tie and Porn Star moustache.

The Gothic Death Metal Bridesmaid backing singers.

Bride's pure white dress with matching polar bear fur cape with a hood.

Awesome.

Dated July 1972, but looks more suitable to winter or colder months.

Bonus - Just been listening to Johnny Cash - at Folsom Prison. Fantastic stuff.
