I might be mistaken, but I think this family is visiting the Mercury-Redstone 3 re-entry vehicle. Better known as Freedom 7, this was the space craft that carriewd the first American into space. If you want some info, well, you could try Wikipedia.

Sorry- that's not the MR-3 Mercury spacecraft (which was Al Shepard's steed- the first American person in space). That's a non-flight mockup- looks like at the Cape Caneveral's USAF Space Museum. It's not a very accurate representation (the hatch is a very odd, inaccurate size, for instance). It's still cool though. Thanks for posting- I'd not sen this particular "version".
