The Great Cocaine Glut of 1964

Before the CIA stepped in to control the production, the manufacture of cocaine was uncontrolled, and in times of plenty the supply was enough to send some countries bankrupt as prices dropped.  When this occurred, some areas of Bolivia just dumped the excess in the suburbs, and waited for the autumn rains to wash it away.  This rare slide shows the Hucknall region of La Paz after one of these dumping events.

Bonus : Eiffel Envy.  1890, and Paris has the Eiffel Tower...and London feels envious.  Time For A Competition.   What could London build to eclipse the French folly?   Here are the proposals
