Billy-Bob goes Bowling

Another Boring Slide, just in case you're getting too excitied.

Billy-Bob might an Insurance Manager in Boise, Idaho, but on Tuesdays, he chills out with the guys from Commercial Risk Assessment, removes his tie (cray-zee) and throws a few balls down at Barney's Bowl-A-Rama. But, by 9.00pm, he's on the way home, detouring to pick up Chip and Allie from Bible Class.  It's a dull life, but by the look of Billy-Bob, he don't want no excitement.

Pottery Oddity

Well, umm, yeah. Pottery.

Probably very stylish, and all the rage in certain parts of London, but... What The Heck ??

Brutal Architecture

Not all slides and wallpaper have to be beautiful or funny. Sometimes they just have to reflect the less-than-ideal world we live in.

This slide, for some reason, makes the think of the The's Heartland.

Beneath the old iron bridges, across the Victorian parks
And all the frightened people running home before dark
Past the Saturday morning cinema
That lies crumbling to the ground
And the piss stinking shopping centre in the new side of town

(Reproduced without permission.)

The saddest bit is the kid's drawing of a horse in one window. Must be shit growing up there...

One Hundred

Woo. One Hundred Pictures !   And I'm still not a millionaire. Dammit.

Today, a gaggle of old ladies. Monty Python would refer to such people as "Pepperpots", and give them names Mrs Theorum. Actually, I think that's Mrs Theorum in the dashing red hat, who's just amending the script to "Battley Townswomens Guild present A Recreation of The Invasion of Poland."

The View over the Lake

Ah. Nostalgia.     Days spent tramping over hill and dale, stopping at some scenic viewpoint to just take in the view. And Jeeves the butler to take the picture.

I'm assuming that this is  view from somewhere in the Lake District, but quite where is a mystery. Tho' I wouldn't be surprised if someone was to edumacate me...

Darling...your Christmas yoghurt.

The last working day before the Christmas Break, and Glenda decides to welcome Henry back from work with his favourite pipe and slippers (just out of shot) and a "welcome home" drink. Not his usual Gin n Tonic, but something different. Something creamy and white. Obviously, it has to be yoghurt.

So, why the heck was such a photo staged? Clearly, the camera was set up on a sideboard and the self-timer set, but why ?   I'm guessing that this was part one of a Before and After set of slides. Twenty minutes later, in the same pose were Mistress Glenda the Dom and Maggot Henry in his Gimp Suit.  (That's the way my mind works.)  I've not yet found that picture.

Two other comments - The standard lamp on the left. Hideous!    Glenda's face reminds me of Cherie Blair (and not in a good way).

Credit Crunch / Financial Meltdown. This has to be a wind-up. Right?

Epidemiology of Allergic Rhinitis

A Ronseal Slide. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

I could almost understand getting a completeset of these slides (assuming that this is part of a set) but no, this was the only one like this in the box. The rest were basically the usual scenery / kids / groups, and just one on allergic rhinitis. Very odd.

Still, at least this blog is educational.

Damned Bad Luck

There are those who have a pathalogical hatred of caravans, who may be laughing uncontrolably at the unfortunate demise of one, as illustrated above. They may consider that such a fate is revenge for slow travel on busy roads. They might invoke the spirit of Jeremy Clarkson in lauding the excellent aim of a single felled tree.

Not me.   I'm just thinking "what at odd location for a caravan."  Unless the caravan is not there for pleasure, but for concealment. Perhaps it's Dexter's new operating base.  Hmmmmm.

The Christmas Tree

I guess it's now officially Autumn (Fall to the contrary folks), so to mark the downward spiral towards Christmas, have a Christmas Tree.

Or at least that's what I assume this is. Exposure is such a tricky thing to get right.

Roy, Mt Lafayette

Another slide where I have a reasonable amount of info.

Meet Roy, he's admiring Mount Lafayette in New Hampshire sometime in October 1951. He's been photgraphed from the top of Cannon Mountain.

OK. That's basically about all I know about it, but it's more than usual for a slide. Incidentally, ain't it grand to see decent hiking clothing rather than this fluorescent Goretex stuff that modern walkers feel compelled to wear.

You DON'T Mess With The Sisters

Clearly, young Alice hs just gotten engaged and is proud of her two-dollar engagement ring. At the engagement barbeque (after  fire-and-brimstone sermon from the Pastor) the family take the chance to meet the groom. However, Alice's mom and sisters (Ruby, Pearl and Gladys) insist on a group photo.

You can see in their faces that something is wrong. Is it time for a shotgun wedding due to Alice's condition? Is it that Alice doesn't want to marry Cousin Itchy? Or is it that Ruby (second from left) is blind drunk, again, and can barely stand?

Yarrrr !! (With Pineapples.)

Ahoy Mates. Old Cap'n SlideGuy had to mark Talk Like A Pirate Day in the obvious way. And having annoyed all the land-lubbers at work, I thought "Yarr ! I wonder if I be having any piratey slides?"  And, Arrrr!  I do.

OK, it's actually a rather crappy hotel pirate themed fruit display, but...yarr. What do you really expect ?

I could survive for 1 minute, 25 seconds chained to a bunk bed with a velociraptor

Dedication

It takes dedication to become a success.

Dedication to pull on the old kit, and practise your kicking skills. Alone. In winter. Early morning.

Dedication, or maybe foolhardiness.

Girl on a Swing

As suggested by one regular, we've another slide of a slightly odd looking American kid of the 1950s. Enjoy !

Umm....Stonehenge ?

Most of the time, slides arrive with virtually no information about place, time or who. I suppose photographers think that everyone will recognise.

This one arrived with one word written on the mount.

"Stonehenge"

No shit Sherlock !

By The Statue

Another slide from the "Ibiza 1973" School Trip series, just like The School Girls and The Waiters

I suspect that the photos were all taken by one of the teachers, so I wonder why this girl was singled out for a solo photo. (And for all you pervs out there ;  yes, there are swimming pool and swimsuit shots   and  no, there's no naughty shots.

Nice to see another teenager with a pop-star badge, just like Janey

Defiance

There's something defiant about the look in his eyes. Obviously been through something that the others haven't...they're just happy, but him....he's seen the dark side of men's souls.

Just been found not guilty by a court ?   Don't think so, I'd have expected ahim to wear a tie. Just released from prison is my guess, but it is just a guess.

Before a Haircut from Mom

As promised...this is Judy before Mom butchered her hair. Girly, but entirely acceptable, so it's a pity that Mom wrecked it.

Don't forget. Saturday is Wallpaper Day !

A Haircut from Mom

Someone's just had a grown-up's haircut...from Mom, and she doesn't look that thrilled about it at the moment.

From the look of the pile of hair in her lap, Judy used to have long tresses, but now, they're no more. "It'll be cooler in the summer" promised Mom, but still Judy's not too sure.

Tune in tomorrow, and see what hairstyle Judy had pre-haircut. Can you stand the suspense ?

A.L.Horne & Son

Nice shot. It really captures the beauty of...umm.

OK. Maybe it's the first shot on a new roll of film.

Trans Europe Express

Saw this slide, and immediately thought of Kraftwerk and TransEuropeExpress. To be honest, I've no idea if the loco in question is German, Czech, French, Bolivia or Mongolian, but the styling reminded me of TEE.  Good album, as well.

( Anyone know the nationality of the train ?)

I Has Moor Trout !

Yes, She has caught some more Trouts, hasn't she. What a clever, and very proud, girl.

As promised on a previous post, it's time for some more Fishy Photos.  Hope you like them.

Link of the day...

Socotra Island: you have to see it to believe it

Road Lamps

Another Sunday, Another Wallpaper.

Hmmm. Yes.  So, a slightly abstract "arty" shot today.

NB : Thinking of doing a 2009 TheSlideGuy Calendar, with a different slide every month. Slides not seen on the blog. Anyone interested ?  Could be the ideal Christmas Present for peoplewith everything.

The Reunion

Another Saturday, Another Wallpaper.

What do you think this photo represents?

Me?  Well, my knowledge of the Czeck language is rusty, but I think the sign says Hospital Faculty, and from the ages of the main subjects, I'm suggesting it's a reunion of teacher and pupils. However, is the black armband on one of them significant ?  And is the Professor William Burroughs brother ?

On The Lake

Perhaps not the best advert for Swan Hellenic Cruise Lines (for it is their logo you can see on the luggage tag). Rather cramped accomdation, but at least he's smiling.

Still Life with Parsnip.

Umm Yes. Another one of those "artistic" shots. Fruit, Veg and Eggs. Hmmm.   Curious.

And slightly topical. There was a news article today boasting of the secret of a successful diet. Photographing it.   Yes, a very odd day.

Meet The Parents

You can tell the whole story from the single picture. Hank and Maude get engaged, or they would subject to Hank's parents blessing. So, one long weekend, Hank and Maude set off from Boston to Hank's folks' home in Idaho, so she can meet the folks.

The good news is that Hank's Ma n Pa like Maude, despite her being a hoitie-toitie Bostonian. Even dressing down, Maude still looks a bit too trendy compared to the folks. (I mean, she's exposing her knees !) Hank decides to record the meeting on camera because....well, just because.

Incidentally, Ma n Pa must be very well off to afford such a monster televison. Well, monster for the time.

N'Orleans

Another recently scanned image. In fact, as I was scanning this one, the radio reported that New Orleans was being evacuated thanks to Hurricane Gustav.

Looks like The Big Easy is going to get a soaking, so here's a snap to remind us how it looked. In the late Seventies, I guess.
