Girl with a Spring Bonnet

OK. It's probably an Easter Bonnet, but Easter has passed, so.... whatever.

No info on this slide (as usual), so I'm assuming that this is Cathy, from Boston, in 1961. Feel free to correct me.

Easter Bonnets Ahoy

Easter Monday, and the Gang of Fun are showing off their Easter Bonnets.

Just before abusing the waiter, and refusing to tip, no doubt.

Fruit Meringue as Headwear

So, apparently, in the remote Watzachapl Region of Peru, it's is the fashion for mothers to bake meringues and fill them with fruits and berries for their daughters to were on the Fest Day of Saint Celia.

Who Knew?

Was he the inspiration?

While he was official just Professor of Needlework, Kevin "Illinois" Johnson spent his weekend and vacations chasing down important quilting artifacts from under the noses of the Italian Fascists.

Do you suppose he inspired a later film hero??

Lady In Red

I wish I knew more about this girl. Who she was, where she was from, whether that was a special outfit .... all that sort of stuff.

But, all I know is that this vibrant slide dates from the early sixties, and  there's a reasonable chance that this  lady has departed this earthly plane.

Hmmm.

Easter Sunday - Bonnets and Church

It's Easter Sunday, so that means dress the kids up in their finest clobber, with bonnets for the girls, obviously, and off to church for a boring sermon on Jesus and the imminent Communist threat to Bogtown in Idaho.

Happy Birthday Cliff

 This is not Cliff.

At least, not my Bro-in-Law Cliff who's having his xxth birthday.

No, this slide is of some random dude, having a holiday moment in Malta, in 1974.  Nice hat !

Summer vacation

The only info on this slide - It was in a box marked "B Anadel" (it's companions had names of places, but this has eluded me.) and the slide was dated June 1964. It does has a South of France feel to it, aided by the twit in that hat.

What's interesting to me is that when people think of fashion in the sixties, think of sharp suits and mini skirts, whereas this...   very bo-ho chic.

Hilda's Ethnic Hat

There's nowt like having breakfast outside, when you're on holiday, and Hilda starts the day perfectly with some eels-on-toast,  black coffee and a a locally-sourced stray hat.

She's looking forward to wearing it to the Country Club when she's back at home .... it's bound to allow some boasting of her foreign travel.

If you want to get ahead...

...get a hat.

Straw hats are de rigeur for the event. In this case the event is "1978 Nov Dartmouth Cancer Care Fete".  In this case, I suspect this is the American Dartmouth, rather than the English one.

Britain Needs a New Prime Minister.

Why Not Bob?

As Liz Truss sinks rapidly in the west, the hunt is on for a new Prime Minister who is untainted by Brexit Battles, who is unafflicted by Party Politics, and won't get into new scandals

Why not Robert "Bob" Livingston?

Admittedly, he's not an MP, or even a member of the Conservative party, but that shouldn't be a hindrance.  He also died in 1978, but this is not the time to succumb to petty alive-ist prejudices.

Vote Bob.

No, Not Coronavirus Clothing.

Nope.

Despite the current coronavirus outbreak, we are not seeing CoVid 19 memorabilia.

And this is not protective clothing.

This is just an old slide re-titled for some cheap news referencing.

The Red -Hatted Butchers

There's a great box of slide in the collection, marked "Koosharem, Utah", and seems to depict a Fall 1950 hunting expedition.  Proper tents, and lots and LOTS of freshly butchered venison.

Why the Red Hats ?   Fashion statement, or may an attempt to avoid being shot by so many red-necked hunters.
