From the days when an impressive outside Christmas decoration display was a bunch of cardboard cutout choristers (rather that 100,000 twinkly lights and a 12ft Animatronic Santa.

Woke up this morning to a misty scene, with tree's turning brown and leaves going crinkly. I was tempted to take the family out for  a photo (until I realised I had no family. ) Still, this family unit seems similarly thrilled by the season.

Honestly, some of these media studies graduates are a little, umm, thick. Except, as this slide dates from the mid-sixties, it was probably a degree in Retail Management or something. Also, why do the old guys i these sort of shots always look like Martin Scorcese gangsters ?

...it's The Communards, from another dimension !

Actually, it's from a series of Herbert M Munroe Elementary School slides, but there's a strange vibe to these guys. A front man taking centre stage and the other guy, operating a small set of electronic gubbins. It could be anyone of a dozen early 1980's electro-pop outfits.

Except, transported to mid 1960's rural Mississippi. Playing to a school hall full of confused teens. Accompanied by the odd looking, but vocally amazing girl.

Yeah, that's what the picture says to me.

Am Dram, Not Hum Drum

In the name of the wee man, what the heck is going on here? There I was, just scanning in some rather unexciting slides, and...WHAM...this one appears from out of nowhere.

A red-edged Kodachrome, so probably dating from the early 1960s, and processed in America, but otherwise no clues. I'm guessing the post-show party for some Amateur Dramatics company, but truly, I'm baffled.

Don Draper's Other Brother

Noticed in my newspaper this weekend that the BBC is gearing up to show series three of Mad Men. Yes !  Excellent series.

So, to celebrate, here's a monthly calendar to showcase Don Draper's other brother. That's Ted. Ted Whitman, with his mom Edith and wife Antonia. The two naughty scamps in the right are the kids Fletcher and Chad. Unlike the smooth and urbane Don, Ted is a Motor Mechanic, and goes bowling with the guys at weekends.

Becky's Christmas Haul

Becky must have been a very good girl for the whole year...look at the bumper haul of presents she's received. And doesn't she look happy about it.

A little organ/piano is the centrepiece (Pah. Who needs an iPod?) A slightly goth looking doll, with one of those creepy faces that will haunt her dreams for years.    But bottom left...is it just my imagination, but is that an Eddie Munster doll ?   Woo.   Nice !
