Strange lady, Mrs Cathcart.

Enjoyed nothing more that sitting at the window, watching the neighbours. Whether they waere having dinner, or watching television, or checking the kids' homework, Mrs Cathcart would pull up a chair, and look into their cottage.

Odd.

I like this slide for its old-master painter-y style.

This was a very under-exposed slide (second image here), and my first thought was "If some felt the need to keep this for XX years, it must be of  great historical importance.

A quick brightness and tone adjustment, and ...

...nope.  Person in car. Dull.

Hilda, Ready for some Skinny Dipping

 

Before "Dogging" and "Wild Swimming" were socially acceptable activities (in Hampshire at least) Skinny Dipping was the outdoor nudity activity of choice for the commuter belt round London.

Here, Hilda Brackenshaw prepares for a dip in WasteWater, one of the filthiest of the lakes in the Lake District.This slide, and the subsequent "artistic" images was taken by her husband / gimp / fluffer George.

December in The Lakes

 

This would appear to be Blea Water, the deepest Tarn in this Lake District.

It's from a set of slides seemingly documenting a university department's trip to the Lake District to do some sampling of water n stuff from teh various areas. And some nice picturescque slides... like this.

An unexpected sight on the River Derwant.

 Up until 1975, on the River Derwent, just south of Whatstandwell, canoeists would be met by this unusual sight.

Alvin the Alligator sunbathing on a rock, or sometimes chomping down on a stray sheep. He had been released into the river as a Rag Week Prank by Zoology Students at Matlock University, in 1958.

Initially, there were some attempts to recapture him, but after the disappearance of a couple of gypsy shoemakers, the locals sort of adopted him as an unofficial vermin-catcher. Nice.
