This seems to be Saint-Petersburg (Russia). The Astoria hotel, Saint Isaac's Square.

The interesting thing is ... this is from a box of slides from a trip to Russia. In the early 1980s (?).

And it's probable not really a traffic roundabout. Or lavenders.

Now, that's quite impressive.

 

Has a definite Russian feel, and it was in a box of other Russian slides.

It was marked as "The Exhibition of the achievements of the USSR National Economy, A Space Rocket" ....so, yeah.

Hopper-esque Tedium

While this slide does have some Edward Hopper-ish touches, and the blue patio chairs are rather funky, this slide is very tedious.

I have nothing more to say on the subject.

Bonus - Wrong. VERY wrong.

 

Hello Bank of Montreal

 

Heavens, it's June !    The sixth month? Where did the time go?

So, today we have a Bank of Montreal, from 1960, located next to that Canadian / Czech Handbag retailer Bata.

I was considering searching for that exact location, but ... life is too short.

Bonus - The last person to be executed by guillotine, was executed after the release of Star Wars. (No, there's not a direct link.)

Yesterday, I got off my fat ass, sat down (!?) and scanned another baggie of slides. They were basically a record of someone's trip to Russia in 1985 (Leningrad, Moscow and Yalta), and were...to be honest ... only slightly interesting.

And then this slide appeared. Different mount, and unconnected with the USSR selection.   And it's great. A lovely calm forest lake...somewhere. Anywhere. This could be Wales, or Siberia, or Canada, or Montenegro, of Finland or ... anywhere.

And it's lovely.

Bonus - a recent estimate for the number of trees on Earth exceeds the highest estimates for the number of stars in the Milky Way.

Bonus 2 - Curse of the Axe: Rewriting American History (2015) - European axe found (likely) prior to arrival of settlers, a story about Indigenous trade networks. Looks like an interesting watch.
