This is the 13th-century painted stone tomb effigy of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine located at Fontevraud Abbey in France. Eleanor of Aquitaine (c. 1122–1204) was a powerful medieval ruler who served as queen consort of both France and England. Unlike standard medieval tomb figures that showed people with hands folded in passive prayer, this sculpture unusually portrays her reading a book. Location: The colourful sculpture rests in the abbey church alongside the tombs of her husband, King Henry II, and her son, Richard the Lionheart.

Mrs Euphemia Murphy and Mrs Harriet O'Keefe, keep their distance from a prototype Spondulon-87 Gate-Guard Robot, as seen  when Darth Maul returns to Nabboo, in Star Wars - The Phantom Empire.

Euphemia and Harriet were First Aiders for that movie.

Before you start decoding the clues in this sculpture, let me just say "Achilles Innocenzo Ferito Fraccaroli 1805-82 Milan "  was written on the slide.   So that answers the obvious question.

Seegfrörni 1963

 

Not a word I was aware of previously.

That is Swiss German for the great lake freeze of 1963.

During the winter of 1962/1963 it was so cold in Switzerland that Lake Zurich froze over! In Swiss German this phenomenon is called 'Seegfrörni' which simply means 'freezing over of a lake'. For a lake as big as Lake Zurich (about 88 km2 and 136m deep) that's pretty impressive.

Googling didn't seem to find anything on this artwork, tho Ice Yachts were definitely used during Seegfrörni 1963

In fact, the slide identifies this as "Louvre, Puget   Milo de Crotona"

So, in summary:

• The Louvre, Paris - World famous art gallery / art museum.
• Pierre Puget (b. 1620, Marseille, d. 1694, Marseille) French Sculptor
• Milo of Croton - A sculpture by said french marble-basher, depicting
• Milo of Croton - An ancient Greek Wrestler, with more fame and power than any grappler from WWE.

Bonus - The Death of Milo of Croton.

The Ancient Greeks typically attributed remarkable deaths to famous persons in keeping with their characters. The date of Milo's death is unknown, but according to Strabo and Pausanias , Milo was walking in a forest when he came upon a tree-trunk split with wedges. In what was probably intended as a display of strength, Milo inserted his hands into the cleft to rend the tree. The wedges fell from the cleft, and the tree closed upon his hands, trapping him. Unable to free himself, the wrestler was devoured by wolves.

Silver Jubilee with Beefy Margarine

 I was looking for a slide that was appropriate for Bank Holiday 2 for Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee.

But instead, I'm using this oddity.

With a label proudly announcing "Created with Vegetable Margarine by: Chef Dianez and his cook team."

Surely this must be the finest scene of "cowboys herding cattle on the trail" mini-butter sculpture that you have seen today.

This slide came up on the random slide selector, and I almost dismissed it as..."oh, just a boring suburban park with some sculptures."

Then I notice the sculptures.  Odd. Quite odd.

Luckily, that one of the right looked familiar, and I narrowed the location down to be Vigeland Sculpture Park.

VERY odd.
