I know that this could be a Tedious Tuesday slide, and it did have zero information on the slide.

However, I did think that it might be fun to try and track down exactly wheremthis is/was.

And, so dear reader, I did.

It's in the town of Henley On Thames, and it's till there. Well, actually its now The Relais, Henley, but it's still on Thameside.

"What's your name, boy?" Cop asked the young man.

"P-p-p-pet-pet-Peter, Sir" He replied.

"Do you have a stutter?" Asked the Cop kindly.

He answered "No sir, my dad has a stutter but the guy who filled out my Birth Certificate was an asshole."

The Mermaid Passage

 

Today's slide - a quaint part of Merry Old England - The Mermaid Passage, at the Mermaid Inn, Rye.

Legend has it that a mermaid was caught at sea, and was drowned in a vat of Liebfraumilch, by villagers who believed that she was a donkey.  Stupid folk.

Flight over Barsetshire

 

One of the least known of the English Counties, on account of the residents' unintelligible accents, Barsetshire is seen in its glory in this shot.

In the foreground, the area known as The Gruts.

In the middle ground, Barset and the plum tree mines (supplying plums to the Bishop of Lincoln).

In the horizon, the hills of the "Humble Alps".

Bonus - The last remain parts of a dodo. 

Reddington's Rare Records

 

Nothing written on this slide, but it wasn't difficult to track down some details. Long story short,

1985, and the centre of Birmingham was being redeveloped. And, Reddingtons (Later Reddington's Rare Records) was in the way of  "Urban Improvement".

Fortunately, Reddington's was able to relocate, and survived until just a few years ago.

I bet this brings back memories for Birminghamites.

The Ride Up Mount Shelton

 

Mount Shelton is the highest peak in the Lincolnshire Alps, and the home of England's only all-year glacier.

This is the cable-car that provides a less energetic alterative to the grueling 34-mile expedition from Stoke-on-Trent that the was featured in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral.

The Dover Stage Hotel

A striking example of post-war modern architecture, this is "Stage" as in coach-house rather than "Stage" as in full of resting theatrical types.

One of the joys of this slide collecting lark is finding a detail, such as the name on the building, and finding that it leads to other people's obsessions  - such as this page devoted to The Dover Stage Hotel.  Good work fellas.

Alas, I have no other details on when this was taken.

Bonus - while Neil Armstrong was on the moon the Soviets crash landed an explorer just 500 miles away.

It's unlikely to be a long term thread, but just randomly dipping into the slide selection today, and this was about the third slide that turned up.

Regular visitors (including the one called Colin) will know that there are a lot of slides of anglers with their catches. And generally, the catches are rather weedy - and often American.

Not in this case. Two fine fishes, caught my by some trenchant British fishermen. Probably called Arthur, Frank and  Trevor.
