Phew, what a scorcher

Hottest day of the year, so far, so this seemed apposite.

A bunch of normal folks enjoying the sun, and awaiting the start of a Church Picnic.

Or awaiting the Rapture, perhaps.

Little detail I liked - right of centre : a lad with his duffel bag.  I remember having one for my swimming kit. :-)

Bonus - Hi-Viz Camo

Knitting Club !

( Yes, I know it's blurred, but surely you'll forgive the photographer that.)

After 4 straight uninterupted hours of Knitting Natter, Henry just gave up. Even the thought of a new woolly pullover couldn't preventing him lapsing into a deep sleep.

Dreams of cricket matches, warm beer and how his wife Hilda (in the blue cardy) used to look.

Cheryl's Lovely Wedding

Again, it might just be me, but this wedding shot reminds me of the wedding in The League Of Gentlemen. Don't know why... Maybe it's the Papa Lazarou character who's watching the events, but is just out of shot.

One Hundred

Woo. One Hundred Pictures !   And I'm still not a millionaire. Dammit.

Today, a gaggle of old ladies. Monty Python would refer to such people as "Pepperpots", and give them names Mrs Theorum. Actually, I think that's Mrs Theorum in the dashing red hat, who's just amending the script to "Battley Townswomens Guild present A Recreation of The Invasion of Poland."

Mr Woods Remedial Woodwork Class

Nope. No idea if it really is Mr Woods, or even if it is the remedial woodwork class, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. That the photo's outside a school is undeniable - the air of depression is obvious.

So I'm guessing that this is the bunch of lads who weren't ver good at the Three Rs, and for the school year, they laboured hard on building a little dinghy. Now, they've finished and it's time to drive it over to the local reservoir to test it. Cue some of them finding their cagoules. Notice how worried some of them are...would the Good Ship Venus actually float ?      Probably not.

NB : I'd recommend this photo be used in the gatefold sleeve for  Half Man, Half Biscuit's next album "Beverley, Hull 19620". Anyone agree ?

"The Next Sketch...

...is about Reservoirs.    It's called The Reservoir Sketch."

Again, maybe it's just me but this chap makes me think of a gumby. Still, perhaps it's just... that...my...brain...hurts.

The Blog Begins

First post, so I'd better explain.  I Buy Slides.  35 mm slides from years ago.   Why ?  Well, someone has to. When Great Uncle Fred shuffles off his mortal coil, and the kids descend on the house to clear it and sell it, no-one wants a collection of random, old, unwanted slides, so they're chucked. Or sometimes sold.

I want them.  Correction, I want some of them. Some of the slides are so evocative of the era, especially if I have no clue of the story behind them, or the subjects.  So, me and some buds will meet every so often, crack open a few bottles of wine, and spend the night sneering at these ghosts from the past.

For example, the slide above. Who are they ?  Are they middle-aged swingers, or are they off to a prayer meeting?   Which gal is the guy married to?   Am I the only one who suspects that Doris (on the far left) is completely naked under that trench-coat?   Feel free to speculate...
