Undated, but possibly around 1960, today we have an image from a vintage steam engine fair, in New York.  The adjacent detailed enlargement might provide some info that the keen eyed might decipher.

The lad?  I'm calling him Simon. He looks like a Simon.

The Locomotive - No info on the slide, but it only took seconds to identify this as 46115 Scots Guardsman (LMS 6115 & BR 46115).

The sky - grey and lifeless.

Lynn L Langworthy

 

I had always just presumed that Steam Engine and Traction Engine preservation was a peculiarly British thing - the preserve of gruff old Yorkshire men and retired whippet breeders. However, this box of slides showed that America has these interests as well. 

This engine seems to be called after Lynn L Lagworthy, of Alfred, New York. The notice at the bottom leads to  Williams Grove Steam Engine Association, which is still going ! (I presume that WGSEA = WGHSEA.

"Steady - Steam Obscures Vision"

This is one of my favourite found slides, and I know nothing about it.  No markings or information on the slide, and exercising my Google Skills turns up a whole heap of nothing.

Based upon most slides, I'm assuming this is somewhere in America (tho' New Zealand is a possibility), and the car appears to be late 40's (but I'm no expert.).

So, I invite you to just enjoy the slide and a simple, nice slide.

Bonus - In honour of Elvis (43rd Anniversary) this evening I shall enjoy a snack of Four Scoops of Ice cream and six chocolate chip cookies.    Except, I hope to survive. :-)

Sadly, I still know some middle aged me who would squee at the prospect of such a train ride.

Summer Steam Fayre

Strangely, I don't associate Americans with Steam Traction Engines, or the ongoing enthusiasm for them, but I guess that this slide proves that there are some outposts of the colonies where nostalgia reigns.

The Ardingly Rally, 1971

Ardingly Rally was the entirely unsuccessful follow up to the Nuremberg Rally of 1933. Rather than thousands of fervent National Socialists, the village saw the arrival of a fleet of historic vehicles.

And Mrs Mavis Sneech, in an ethnic print dress that she picked up in a frightfully chi-chi boutique in St Trpoz, dahling.
