What a remarkably calm and restful scene - a mother, daughter, son-in-law and their grad-daughter enjoying the air of a crisp Sunday Afternoon.

Except... there's a secret. Karen, the daughter is actually Kevin, and he's en femme after going AWOL from the US Navy Seals - not every guy wanted to head off to Vietnam. So, while awaiting his hair to grown long, and a chance to head north to safety in Canada, Kevin was hiding in plain sight, with a toddler from a nearby Orphanarium.

Eighty Years

Eighty years ago today, France, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia declare war on Germany after the invasion of Poland, forming the Allies.

This, as you probably recognise is a Spitfire 1A, one of the most iconic weapons of war of the era.This is X4590

No info on this, but following a hunch, I'm fairly sure that this is the
Royal Artillery Memorial, at Hyde Park Corner.

A work by Charles Jagger and Lionel Pearson, and features a giant sculpture of a BL 9.2-inch Mk I howitzer upon a large plinth of Portland stone.

well, there's no photoshopping or mucking about with contrast or colours.  Which makes it all the more remarkable that this Kodachrome Slide is 75 years old.   No, really.

This slide is marked "Jack and Elaine", and is dated 1943. I have to imagine that as Ensign Jack heads off to war, he and Elaine decide to get engaged...thus this slide.  I wonder what their story is...

However, from the other slides in the set, I suspect that it's Israel, and I think I recognise a recycled T62 Tank Turret. So, making a logical extrapolation...

Mr and Mrs Albert Odell

From a box of slides marked as "Dene's wedding December 29th 1941", this appears to be two of the guests Mr+Mrs Albert Odell.

What's fascinating is that 22 days before the wedding, Pearl Harbour was attacked by Japanese planes, and the United States declared war on Japan.    How did that affect the wedding?   Was this a hastily-organised wedding before the groom headed off to war?  I dunno, but it's an interesting thought.
