This image depicts the Monastery of Great Meteoron, the largest and oldest of the six active monasteries in Meteora, Greece.

Situated over 415 meters (1,362 ft) above the Pineios valley floor, it was founded in 1356 by Athanasius the Meteorite.

The complex is part of the Meteora UNESCO World Heritage Site, originally built on towering rock pillars accessible only by ropes or ladders.

Or maybe it's Spalding in Lincolnshire.

Oh! ANOTHER historic church that we saw on our guided tour.

The image features the Oratory of San Bernardino in Perugia, Italy, a notable Early Renaissance building.

Façade Artistry: The colorful marble façade is decorated with bas-reliefs sculpted by Agostino di Duccio between 1457 and 1461.

Iconography: The central lunette portrays the Ascension of Saint Bernardino, while the tympanum displays a blessing Jesus surrounded by angels and seraphim.

Location and Context: It is located on Piazza San Francesco next to the Basilica of San Francesco al Prato and is considered the city's most important Renaissance monument.

Roofless and Awesome

 

This slide is probably of the interior ruins of Tintern Abbey in Monmouthshire, Wales.

• Historic Significance: The abbey was founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks and became a prominent Gothic masterpiece.
• Dissolution: The abbey fell into ruins following the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in the 16th century.
• Cultural Legacy: The ruins inspired famous artistic works, including the 1798 poem "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey" by William Wordsworth.

It seems a pity to post this on Tedious Tuesday, because it does look like quite an impressive building.

But, these sort of slide are basically boring,. An interesting church on a day coach-trip to mumblety-mumble.  Let's take a picture to bore the neighbours with, but not have any information of where and when.

That Looks Familiar

 

Something familiar from my childhood.

Yes, I know what you're thinking - Isn't that St Giles' Church Of Scotland, on High Street, Elgin, Morayshire.

And you're right. And there's a very similar shot here, even down to the Two Timspons. 

But the eagle-eyed will notice a difference. The feature at the top of the tower has been removed between the two images.

Why did holidaymakers take so many pictures of churches?  It's just so tedious.

No idea where this is, but the decoration makes me think that this isn't one of the Wee Free's churches.

From the Good Old Days when very (EVERY) child was taken to a church before they were sentient, sprinkled with magical water, and named with whatever name the parents found lest objectionable.  Usually incorporating grandparent or siblings names.

And thus, from 1967, we have the christening of Mary Hildegard Twiggy Sutterthwaite. Nice.
