This would appear to be Blea Water, the deepest Tarn in this Lake District.

It's from a set of slides seemingly documenting a university department's trip to the Lake District to do some sampling of water n stuff from teh various areas. And some nice picturescque slides... like this.

Too Much Contrast

 

Full marks to the original photographer for trying to create an artistic twilight shot.

Alas, the dynamic range was beyond teh capabilities of Ektachrome, and the lower third was dark. Very dark.

So, I tried to correct the photo....with only so-so results.

He must have seen a bunch of oil / chemical drums and thought : Yeah. That's worth a shot.

A Sharp and Clear Morning

 

Slide collecting isn't just about crappy weddings, funny looking people, tedious churches and Fish Parades (tho' much of it is.)

It's sometimes about find rather pleasing slides.

A crisp morning, while out walking the dog, and luckily the unknown photographer sees this view and thinks "I like that!"   Well, I like it too.

It won't come as a surprise, but I often have to "correct" an old slide, to cure underexposure / overexposure, dirty slide of colour fade.

Sometimes, the slide needs massive corrections, and sometimes I'm not sure if I prefer the original or the corrected slide.

Like this example.

Caution

 

On first seeing this faded Ektachrome slide, I thought "Definite Tedious Tuesday slide."

However, reducing it to monochrome, and straightening up the horizontal... it's rather a striking composition. I like it.

I believe that this is of an airport, and the covered walkways that existed before the modern articulated, 20ft above the ground ones.

Bonus - The reason why we view neanderthals as hunched over and degenerate is that the first skeleton to be found was arthritic.

Now, technically this should be called a bad photograph. The exposure rather too contrasty, and the Ektachrome slide had deteriorated and colour-shifted over the years.

But, it's made this slide (unretouched or corrected) quite like an old Cyanotype image. And I like it.

Bonus - What I don't really like, or at least, it makes me uneasy, is this.

Beach Casting

I very nearly skipped past this slide, thinking "Blurred and Out-Of-Focus".

However, it does give the photograph a wonderful artistic, painterl, vibe.  And I like that.
