A Pretty Little Village in Suffolk

 

OK. Probably not Suffolk. It's likely to be be Andalucía, or Burgundy, or The Outer Hebrides.

Anyway, pretty.... but dull. Unless you had been there and have nostalgia for the little bakery that made the Best Sausage Rolls Ever, this probably won't affect you much.

Old Wetton Post Office

 

Yes, I know that this one is a bit of a cheat. A 35mm Slide of an earlier (much earlier) photograph. From the other slides in the box, the original photos seem to be late 40's early 50's....but what do I know.

The slide box was marked Wetton in Derbyshire, but that wasn't a surprise. I recognised many of the locations, and Wetton retains it's rural charm to this day.

Llama Blanket Bingo

 

In the Peruvian village of Santa Ricardo de Tromboni, there is a strange custom. Every two years, the villagers layout their hand-knitted blankets in a field, then introduce a herd of llamas, pre-fed on chocolate eclairs.

Eventually, nature takes its course, and a llama poops on a blanket.  The owner of that cacca-blessed blanket will be Mayor of the village for the next two years.

I presume a similar thorough process can be blamed for Boris Johnson's appointment.

The Queens Head

A nostalgic view of an old pub (or at least, the sign of an old pub) from a time that little villages were not crammed ith parked cars.

It looks like The Queens Head is a tied pub, part of the Charles Wells of Bedford  chain. I've not tracked down where this pub is, or most likely WAS, knowing how many pubs have disappeared, but you (dear reader) might want to.

One of the big clues would be the road sign on the left.

Bonus - So, England lost at the Euro Football Final. I do feel sorry for the England players, but I don't feel sorry for the portion of the supporters who were utter scum.

Same bag o' slides as yesterday's Golden Gate Bridge, but I doubt if this is one was taken in America.

However, it is a rather good picture - with a definite painterly vbe to in.

A Gurning Buffoon

The mention of Barnoon End makes me think that this is in St Ives, but I can't really be more precise than that. Sorry.

However, this view on Google Street view looks like the modern version.

Phew.

Just spent four days with the Egyptian CAA, so this slide seems oddly inappropriate.

Bonus 2 - Good Brakes On A Volvo

Canal Junction

When the Dutch were ceded a small enclave of land in the Austrian Alps, at the Treaty of Gwent in 1697, they set about creating their own small patch of Netherlands in a distant country.

The Alps were hidden behind buildings, and the enclave was flattened of hillocks, hummocks and lumps.   Later, a series of mini-canals were built, with no real purpose...they were just reminders of home.

In this slide, we can see the former mountain hamlet of St Kathrins, showing just how good their makeover was. It's difficult to believe this is actually Austria.

Bonus - Here's a little phrase to chill the blood of those who know. Three of the four arming mechanisms on one of the bombs activated, causing it to execute many of the steps needed to arm itself, 

Flounders Restaurant

A sleepy little, out-of-season Dorset Village. Lymington, I thinks. (Certainly, that's where Fox and Sons, who are trying to lease the building, hail from.) Very picturesque.
