On the last Saturday in September (for this year at least), it seems suitably nostalgic to hark back to days of yore, when the family would scour the sea shore for flotsam, jetsam and mislaid bundle of cocaine, floating on-shore from narco-subs.

I think that the location is Weston-Super-Mare, but I could (probably) be wrong.

On the beach at the sunny resort o Isle of Whithorn, it is impossible to take a in-focus picture, As you can see.

No-one has every explain how or why....it just is.

This is, obviously, the island of Squat, in Derbyshire's Foremark Reservoir.

Often mistaken for St Michael's Mount in Cornwall, Squat is actually a 86% scale model of St Michael's Mount and was built by students foe 1993's University of Wessex Rag Week.

St Andrews Day

 

Yes, today is St Andrews Day, Patron Saint of Scotland (and Ukraine, Barbados and Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, if we're being obsessive.)

But today's slide links in with the Scotland connection.

This is the Blue-Billed Water Grouse, the back-up national bird of Scotland.  One interesting fact is that the Blue-Billed Water Grouse cannot, in fact, float.  Instead, they use their 55-inch long legs to stand on the bottom of ponds, and flex their knees to give the illusion of floating.
