It was marked as "The Exhibition of the achievements of the USSR National Economy, A Space Rocket" ....so, yeah.

Yet Another Hollings Fashion Show slide

 

Such was the response to yesterday's slide, (very nearly one comment!) I just had to post another. This time, it's from the 1985 show, and seems to feature an incomplete outfit, in the the process of "final sew".

Lower River Campground

 

Upper and Lower River Campgrounds on the north side of the Merced were inundated by the 1997 flood and permanently eliminated per the park's Yosemite Valley Plan in 2000 along with the Group Campground and about half of Lower Pines Campground.

It was a trip to Russia in 1985...yes, the year that Mikhail Gorbachev took commend, and oversaw the opening up of the USSR.

But THIS is a boring view from a grey river.

One of those slides that just appears with nowt but a date (June 1985), but it intrigues me. So....what and where?

In case it's of interest, he'smy thought process.

In the background - "Barley Brewery". That leads to a site saying it's defunct...but saying it was in the village of Barley, and giving a postcode.

So, then it's easy to Google, and see that 38 years later, there's still a Fox and Hounds pub there.   And, Street view shows that nothing much has changed. 

Oh, and kids.... the petrol station on the left, in 1985. That's £1.65 per Gallon.

Bonus - Florida man whose arm was ripped off by 10-foot gator, was peeing in pond because bar line was too long.

I'm sure you'll recognise Moscow University, and I'm certain that you're already thinking - "What a hideously tedious picture."

And you'd be right. So, In an effort to add some interest, I've imagines what it would look like if Vlad Putin explodes due to touching anti-matter.

This is actually from a rather tedious set of slides from someone's visit to Russia in 1985.

Bonus - Shingō village is the location of what is purported to be the resting place of Jesus, the “Tomb of Christ.” — Jesus Christ did not die on the cross at Golgotha. Instead, a man alleged to be his brother, Isukiri, took his place on the cross, while Jesus escaped across Siberia to Mutsu Province, in northern Japan. Once in Japan, Jesus changed his name to Torai Tora Daitenku and became a garlic farmer. In Japan, Jesus allegedly married a woman named Miyuko, with whom he fathered three children, all daughters. After his death at an age exceeding 100, Jesus was said to have been interred into one of two grave mounds in the village.

The slide was marked as "June 85 Bali, Kutri Beach", but I'm fairly sure that they meant Kuta Beach.

I was wondering how much this view has changed in the last 38 years, but there's something about the Google Streetview that looks suspicious.

Reddington's Rare Records

 

Nothing written on this slide, but it wasn't difficult to track down some details. Long story short,

1985, and the centre of Birmingham was being redeveloped. And, Reddingtons (Later Reddington's Rare Records) was in the way of  "Urban Improvement".

Fortunately, Reddington's was able to relocate, and survived until just a few years ago.

I bet this brings back memories for Birminghamites.

This may appear to be a really tedious slide...

... but what if I was to tell you that this slide was found in the possession of a known Russian Spy, and seems to show some covert surveillance of the latest (at the time) US Naval research craft.)

That changes things.

But it's not true.  It's a dull slide.

My Russian colleagues have left today, and ...frankly... I'm quite happy and slightly disappointed that they have left.

So, in their honour, another slide from teh Russia 1985 selection.

No information, but that aircraft T-Shaped tail-plane makes me think it may be aviation related.
