The Exasperated Peggy in her Kitchen

The roll of  the eyes tells you all that you need to know about Peggy's opinion on husband (and photographer) Wilbur's suggestion of "Maybe you could try some other recipes."

Peggy knows what she can cook, and what needs cooking.

And tonight, it's Chittlins and Grits. Not pizzas or lasagne.

Bonus - RIP Jane Goodall.

Feeding The Ducks

Formerly a good old traditional British activity for the weekend, it's been banned because of bleedin' 'Elf n Safety.  Tony Bliar and co declared it non-PC, yet he allowed millions of furriners to come into...

Sorry.

My computer was it Daily Mail mode.

Now sorted.

The Christening Party - Minus 1

The whole box of slides was devoted to Brenda (second from the right) and her recently sprogged child. But this slide is different in not featuring her crotch-fruit.

Bonus : I was walking past a farm, and a sign said, “duck, eggs”! I thought, “that’s an unnecessary comma”

….and then it hit me!

The Happy Ring ?

No info on this slide, except for a date of October 1967. From the selection of cars, my first thought was "That must be London."

But I was wrong.

With a bit of investigating, I believe that this is actually Dublin in Eire. The "Happy Ring" building was strangely of little help...initially, but did eventually help after finding this image.

Nowadays, that area is very similar, but MUCH leafier. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8RPGTC1GtrTkEskh9

Nice.

The fourth best rated landmark in UK

And I'm surprised it was so high.

Not a patch upon the Norfolk Alps Ski-Lift and Ski-Jump Facility.

Yes, this is Edinburgh Castle.

He may only be 8 months old, but the eyes don't lie.  Curt has seen things. Evil things.  Evil things that mummy does with Mr Mortimer from next door.

Baby Name-y Day

From the Good Old Days when very (EVERY) child was taken to a church before they were sentient, sprinkled with magical water, and named with whatever name the parents found lest objectionable.  Usually incorporating grandparent or siblings names.

And thus, from 1967, we have the christening of Mary Hildegard Twiggy Sutterthwaite. Nice.

Bonus - RIP Sinead O'Conner.   And her letter to Piers Morgan.

Yup. Good judge of character.

Celebrate The Suburb

Suburbs get a bad press, really, but they don't really deserve it.

Sure, the only times you see mentions of suburbs in local papers are for headlines like "Small cannabis factory found in Kilmarnock suburb", or "Winchester Suburb names as England's duck-eating hotspot" or "Cardiff Suburb destroyed by Meteor Impact".... but where would most of us be without the suburbs.

Like this suburb being built in 1967.

The name's Bland. James Bland.

Ugh.  <Sigh>

When will people realise that a white tuxedo is a fashion statement, just not a very positive one.

Even Sean Connery, the best James Bond (Fact), could barely pull off the white tuxedo look. So, what chance does some teenage dead-beat from Little Rock have?

The Mother's Day Mob

I don't know who they are or where  they are , but I can tell you when - August 1967  But that's just the film processing date. Maybe the Christening was on Mother's Day.

Off to the Winter Prom

My understanding of American Teenage Culture of the Sixties, is that everyone was heading off to Proms, Summer Proms, Homecoming Proms, and Weenie-Roasts.

And, even weirder, Proms weren't just an excuse for young ladies to dress up as trainee Porn Stars. How Strange !

Matryomin?    Invented in 2003 by Japanese theremin player Masami Takeuchi, the matryomin combines two Russian cultural objects: a small theremin and a matryoshka doll. Matryoshka dolls are nesting wooden dolls – as you open one, another is revealed inside.

I won it in a raffle .... can I keep it?

Baby Raffles were an occasional thing in rural Lancashire, and often teenage girls would return home after six months with Aunt Hilda with a baby that she'd won at the town fair.

Of course. That's the only possible explanation.

Fine Day for a Wedding

Had a new box of old slides delivered a few days ago, and yesterday I scanned them in. Mostly dull, but this was one of the better ones. Slide is marked Sept 1967, so... 55 years ago :-)

Synchronicity. Today, my Sis and B-i-L are off at a wedding in sunny (?) Derbyshire. I wonder how fashions have changed then to now.
