The slide displays the waterfront of Honolulu, Hawaii, as seen from Pearl Harbor, with the distinctive white structure of the USS Arizona Memorial visible in the foreground. 

The memorial marks the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors and Marines killed on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. (Yes, 84 years ago, yesterday) The attack led to the United States' involvement in World War II.

I could have chosen a more iconic image for today, I have quite a few from someone's visit to the famous location.  But this one is relevant, even if the location "The Punchbowl" is lesser know.

For those who haven't twigged, this marks a date that will live in infamy.

Another example of Photography Gone Wrong. In this case, a very standard picture of the Lincoln Memorial has been stored in a warm, humid location, and ... fungus.

I do hope the fungus is non-hazardous.

But, artistically...I like it.

Bonus - L Ron Hubbard believed that tomatoes feel pain and that - if it is quiet enough - you can hear them scream when they are sliced.

Pearl Harbor - Belatedly.

I knew I had some, somewhere.  A shot of the USS Arizona Memorial, posted after it was revealed that For first time, Pearl Harbor remembrance takes place without a single USS Arizona survivor present

Today, it was this slide, and after a mere 21 1/2 hours, I figured that this was Monument to the Fallen Fighters of the Revolution in St Petersberg

As you know, Jacob A Riis was an Danish-American social reformer, "muckraking" journalist and social documentary photographer.

He is memorialised by several places in the USA, but I have a suspicion that this memorial isn't in the good old US of A.
