The weird thing about Tedious Tuesday is tat slides are often quite pretty. Good Windows desktop backgrounds.

But it terms of interesting...not so much.

This slide is probably of the interior ruins of Tintern Abbey in Monmouthshire, Wales.

• Historic Significance: The abbey was founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks and became a prominent Gothic masterpiece.
• Dissolution: The abbey fell into ruins following the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in the 16th century.
• Cultural Legacy: The ruins inspired famous artistic works, including the 1798 poem "Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey" by William Wordsworth.

There were a LOT of images from Wales in this box, so I'm just assuming that this one is Wales as well.

 

AI says that it shows a scenic rural landscape, identified as a hiking path leading towards Moel Hebog in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. But, as we know, AI is not always perfect.

On this slide, it said "Castel Llandegla, 1977", so I suspect that it is Tomen y Rhodwydd.   

Based upon my extensive knowledge of castles in Powys built by Owain Gwynedd in 1149.

No info on this slide (you're not surprised, are you?) but it wasn't tricky to recognise Pistyll Rhaeadr in Wales.

Deep in the Heart of ... Wales

 

After yesterday's totty-fest, we return to more scenic slides.

This is marked as Elwy Valley 1987, and most pleasant it is too. The River Elwy (Afon Elwy in Welsh) is a river in Wales forming a tributary to the River Clwyd. Though the source of the river may be on the northern flank of Moel Seisiog, south-east of Llanrwst, the river only receives the name Elwy at the village of Llangernyw, where three rivers meet.

Honestly, I have no evidence that this is in Wales, but the whole box of sl;ides have a feeling of Welsh-ness from the scenery and surroundings.  And it had a faint whiff of Caerphilly Cheese.

I know that for a number of "men of a certain age", steam railways are a source of fascination.

Not me.  I can't really see the attraction.

Thus, I can tell you nowt about this slide's subject. (Actually, Google suggests that it might be the Talyllyn Railway in southern Snowdonia, but .... yeah. Seems possible.

In the days before dayglo, lightweight, tensioned-hoop geodesic dome tents (or whatever) this was a typical campsite set up. And much nicer it was too. 

OK, I may be getting all "Back in my day..." fuddy duddy, but that is my opinion.

A Flock of Hefferlumps

 

It's not what you expect to see as you drive through the UK's countryside. However, the isle of Anglesey is home to the UK's only wild, free-roaming herd of elephants.

It dates from August 1917, when a captive herd kept in the Duke of Menai escapes from his estate, and found the countryside to their liking. Wartime manpower shortages meant that they weren't rounded up quickly, and by the time the war ended, the herd had established itself in the local's heritage. So, meh, let them roam, was the view. And they still do.

This slide was marked as "1987 Carnival Dollgellau", but based upon a hunch, I actually think that this may be Queen Mellissa, the queen of the Barmouth Diamond Jubilee Carnival.

But I could be wrong.

Last day of April, and finally, it's beginning to feen like spring has arrived at Chateau Slideguy.

This slide seems to echo how I feel.  Trees not yet in leaf, but blue skies and sunshine. Yay.

 Slide is labelled "Pandy  Henllan", so some where in Clwyd, or similar vowel desert area.

It seems that I have been wrongly informed. This is not the secret Not the Nun's Exercise Yard at the St Blodwynn's Cathedral atop Snowdon.

It is, in fact, the Brunnenhof (Fountain Courtyard), one of the ten courtyards at Munich Residenz, the former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria.

Albeit, with the famous fountains boarded over due to an outbreak of the Lurghi.
