Flower

Possibly a dark purple Bearded Iris (Iris germanica).

Or a daffodil.

Bonus - One afternoon in the Arctic, a father polar bear and his polar bear son were sitting in the snow. The cub turned to his father and said: "Dad, am I 100 percent polar bear?"

"Of course, son" replied the father. "you are 100 percent polar bear"

A few minutes later the cub turned to his father again and said: "Dad, tell me the truth, I can take it. Am I 100 percent polar bear? No brown bear or black bear or grizzly bear?"

The father put a loving paw on the son's head. "Son," he said "I am 100 percent polar bear, your mother is 100 percent polar bear, so you are definitely 100 percent polar bear."

The cub seemed satisfied, but a few minutes later he turned to his father and once more said: "Look, Dad, I don't want you saying this just to spare my feelings. I have to know: am I 100 percent polar bear?"

By now the father is becoming distressed by the continual questioning and said: "Why do you keep asking if you are 100 percent polar bear?"

The cub replied: "Because I'm freezing!!!"

Far from the madding crowd

No info on this slide, but it does look like the foothills of the Himalayas / Hindu Kush / basically "Foreign".

There's something of interest on the slopes - looks like white rocks arranged to spell something, but the slide resolution is too poor to read it.

All in all, quite a dull slide.

Bonus - there's a place in Yellowstone Park where you could theoretically get away with murder due to a constitutional loophole discovered by a law professor in 2005

He Looks Familiar

He looks a little like a bloke I used to work with - Alan Parker.  It's unlikely that it is, but .... maybe

Where is it?   Well, maybe I should have run this as a where in the world quiz, but it's a very well known location.

It's here.

The start of an adventure...

"I remember that it was a Thursday that by adventure started. I was showing Dad my home-made Nuclear Clock, reflecting only slight un-ease about the geopolitical situation.

My brother has having his hourly de-bogey-ing, courtesy of Mrs Gladwin, our neighbour.

Mother was boiling some fish-fingers in the kitchen, little expecting the unscheduled arrival of the 47th Airborne Division a few hours later."

New Slide - Post Box

I had a new box of slides arrive, a few days ago.  A real random assortment sort of box - around 1000 slides, I think.

Scanned 50 today, and that included a batch of seven with a definite there. Post Boxes, from 2003.

I'm sure an enthusiast could wax lyrical about this one - I can't, tho' I recognise the GR monogram as indicating a pre-1952 box - in the reign of George Rex.
