 While most of our readership is in the norther hemisphere, let's not forget the readership in Australia, New Zealand etc, who have to forego the joys of snow, log fires and cold.

Still, it's not as hot as in 1963, when these two lads were forced into wearing a woolly cardigan and a woolly pullover, to try and insulate themselves from the heat.

Science?

The Climthorpe Fire-Cat Scandal

 

On of the local scandals which has rather faded from the Climthorpe village heritage is the 1978 Summer Fete Scandal.

It seemed a fairly standard summer fayre, with the Climthorpe and Fustleton Volunteer Fire Department putting on a demonstration of "How to rescue a cat from a tree" using the Dennis Rotating Fire Ladder. (Shown in the slide image)

What emerged later was that Mr Wilkins, the CFVFD stunt cat had wandered off for a snooze, and wasn't available for the demonstration. Rather than disappoint the masses, Fire Chief McDonald "borrowed" one of the Vietnamese Boat Folk kids from the Orphanarium display, put them in fancy dress cat costume, then chased them up a tree.

No harm done, and Sgt Fitzhugh wasn't minded to raise a report....but ill-feeling remained for several years.

A Simpler Time

 

At the request of very nearly a blog reader, (a Mrs Trellis of North Wales, I believe) we have another slide from Mrs Beryl Blood's collections of slides. 

Today, it's from he 1964 trip to Canadel in South France, and as with her slides of St Tropez, it's from a time before massive gentrification. I suspect that this little fisherman's village may have changed in the past 60 years.

Bonus - Also in France, the 2024 Olympics have started, Here's a video reminder of the 1988 Olympic opening, with...ummm... an unfortunate accident with doves. Viewer Discretion may be necessary.

Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot

 

It's been a stinking hot day, here at Slide Guy Central, so this slide seems to be appropriate.

(When I say hot, I mean hot for this neck of the woods. I'm sure that thousands of you blog-followers would thing that 27°C is normal. Well, I'm Scottish, so that's infernal.)

Don't know where this is, but I suspect that it's miles away from Stornoway.

 No info on this slide, but as it's Late Summer Bank Holiday Monday here in Slideville, I'm assuming this is a hot Southern USA family gathering. Georgia, or Alabama, or similar.

This slide was marked as "1987 Carnival Dollgellau", but based upon a hunch, I actually think that this may be Queen Mellissa, the queen of the Barmouth Diamond Jubilee Carnival.

But I could be wrong.

Sunny Holiday Scene.

 

I'm just back from a week away, enjoying fabulous weather and superb scenery on the Scottish NC500 route.  Maqnifique!  Highly recommended.

This slide, however, is probably not of Scotland, tho' I did see palm trees, bikes, blue skies and sunshine.

Strangely, this slide reminds me of my summers walking in the Cairngorms. Occasionally, I would encounter a remote corrie with a patch of snow remaining in the shadows.

Now, this doesn't look like the Cairngorms to me.
