Chicago - revisited

I love it when there's something written on a slide. In this case "Aug 17 1952, Isobelle, Ola (?), Mabel, Bill and Vera front of 7439 St. Lawrence".  Damn. 70 years and 12 days ago.

It also gives me a chance to go hunting on Google to figure out which State and/or City this was.

And lo and behold - it's 7439 S St Lawrence Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60619, USA.  Thanks to, Google Streetview, we even have a picture of the property.   How cool is that ?

No. This image is NOT of Tom Brady. The slide dates from the early 1950's, so the photographed lad will be approaching his 80's by now.

But, with the recent announcement that Tom Brady might not have retired after all, this image seemed appropriate.

Parade outside Verne Orr Motors

 

A little break from the Christmas-y slides, tho' still seems seasonal.

American do love a parade, and I suspect this is another New Years Day parade.

Some googling suggest that this is Verne Orr Motors in Pasadena, California, and the window display suggests that this is from late 1952 or early 1953.  Verne Orr later went on to be Ronald Reagan's Secretary of the Air Force.  Verne may be disgusted to know that the showroom now is home to Jaguar cars.  Damned Furriners.

Curious.

Looking for a slide today, and delved into the vaguely interesting "UK RoadSigns" collection.  And this was the first one out.  Curious, because Ormesby St Margaret is about a mile and a half from a house that my sister tried to buy.

This slide dates from August 1975, but there still seems to be a similar sign. 2007

Paul Bunyan

Who appears to be wearing a Bike Helmet.

Strange.

Paul Bunyan is a giant lumberjack in American folklore. His exploits revolve around the tall tales of his superhuman labors, and he is customarily accompanied by Babe the Blue Ox. The character originated in the oral tradition of North American loggers,and was later popularized by freelance writer William B. Laughead (1882–1958) in a 1916 promotional pamphlet for the Red River Lumber Company. He has been the subject of various literary compositions, musical pieces, commercial works, and theatrical productions. His likeness is displayed in several statues across North America.

I think this one might be in Ossineke, Michigan.

I wanted a vaguely appropriate slide for the day, but due to the lack of information of 99% of slides, I couldn't find anything quickly. So, here's a poor quality slide from 1952, which, at least, has a wall poster of the President Of The United States. At the time, Harry S Truman was the Dude.

This slide is from 1952, and needed no image tweaking. Yes, over sixty years old, and the slide still has majestic colours.

This slide does have some info - "June 1952, Jean and Marty". Whether Jean and Marty and the Kids or the Parents- I know not. But, thank you for the image.
