Lions Drag Strip

So evocative of the age.

Lions Drag Strip  was a US raceway in the Wilmington district of Los Angeles, California adjacent to Long Beach that existed from 1955 to 1972. The track was named after its sponsors Lions Clubs International and featured many races that were sanctioned by the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA).

Incidentally - Regarding the famous Thames / University Boat Race. How come no-one mentions the incredible consistency, when the same two universities make it to the final every year !

The Tour o' da' Toons

With the 2017 Tour de France coming to an end, it's a chance to remember the glory days of the Tour o da' Toons.

Held between 1991 and 2008 (with a break for the swine flu outbreak of 2001), the TodT was a cycle road race around the towns of Huntly, Newmacher, Udny, Echt and Ellon.

This shot shows the eventually winner Calumn Gilhooly (no 604) who appears to have been racing on behalf of  the "Highland Cress Bob" team.
