I've been otherwise occupied building a scale model of the building pictured above. Alas, I chose a scale of 1 : 1 so it was quite a complex task.

So, I was browsing through the slide collection, looking for a Tedious Tuesday candidate, when THIS one popped up.

Hmmmm.    It must be an omen.

This slide probably dates from 1960's America, but I'm sure the sentiment remains with Mango Don in 2025.

Yup. Independence Day again.

 

July 4th. The day that the British Empire celebrates the excising of a worthless and troublesome colony, saving us all from strife.  I wonder what happened to that little old colony...

Building on the Glacier?

 

I am intrigued by this slide.

It seems to show some western American dudes standing on frozen water - a glacier?? - but the earth bank behind them is devoid of snow ... or plants. 

Is someone burying / hidinga glacier? Why ??

Call it ... a hunch, but I think that this display might be related to the American nationality of the owner.

Train Tracks to Oblivion

 

This slide was is a box of slides which had plenty "people on a train" and "train travelling thru' American mid-west" slides. So, I'm assuming that this is another view from a train slide.

And I like it.   Slide colour deterioration over the (sixty?) years does lend this an stylish nostalgic view.

I just thought about how political the labelling of blog-posts could be.

This one could have been "Last View of the Homeland as Common Sense Leaves America"

or, it could be "At Last. First sight of the Land Of The Free still welcomes Poor and Huddled Masses"

In fact, this slide was labelled "USA Statue of Liberty, 1970".  Which seems rather...humdrum.

Tree Kangaroos ?

 

"But I only see two of them !"

No, I mean that I think that these are Dendrolagus, a.k.a. Tree Kangaroos.

They inhabit the tropical rainforests of New Guinea and far northeastern Queensland, along with some of the islands in the region. Most tree-kangaroos are considered threatened due to hunting and habitat destruction. They are the only true arboreal macropods.

Ursus Maritimus, if I remember correctly.

From a box marked "American Zoos", but where, when and who...evades me.

In England, I believe that Yorkshire Wildlife Park is the only zoo with polar bears.

So, I know that these wee critters are officially Raccoons, but I've always preferred their alternative name "Trash Pandas".

Bonus 2 - The Vatican has a population of 825 as per googling it moments ago. If they bought one tank they would have 1 tank per 825 people which is 121.2 tanks per 100 000 people.

While putting out the wheelie bins tonight, I got chatting to a neighbour about old slides, found photos, cars and hot-rods.
