I know that today is Tedious Tuesday, and this slide isn't actually tedious or boring, but ... its ineptness is worthy of highlighting.

What would be a nice little image is spoiled by the photographer's inability to actually point the camera high enough to capture the (presumably) happy faces.

Yes, I have been away. Two weeks of various distractions, travels, activities and emotional turmoil.

A Springtime Wedding

 

Wedding outfits are often immune to the whims of fashions. The bride's dress is timeless and classic, and the Father Of The Bride wears a fairly standard three-piece suit.

But velvet Bridesmaids' dresses, and the guest with an oversize black bow tie. It could only be the Seventies.  1977, to be precise.  No punk fashions for these church-goers, but later that evening...?

Sunday in the UK, and in the seventies, that was prime time for a visit to a local attraction, like a castle, museum or Vintage Steam Rally.

As is often the case, it's fascinating trying to build a narrative from the small details in the slide.  In this case, there's a host of little observations.

The elephant tusks around the fireplace, the (possible) buffalo head above the fire, the zebra skin cushions, the cushion with a giraffe, the Desert Pattern Camo curtains. Yes, I'm sure that that plaid shirt guy is one of those "I shoot wild animals for sport" nutters. Showing off to a couple of visiting relatives.

On this slide, it said "Castel Llandegla, 1977", so I suspect that it is Tomen y Rhodwydd.   

Based upon my extensive knowledge of castles in Powys built by Owain Gwynedd in 1149.

It'll come as no surprise that I sometimes have to edit out extraneous details from the slide images. Normally, I don't show the "pre-" images, but as the Official Secrets Acts 45-year news black-out is ending soon, ... see the attached thumbnail.

Regular readers (both of them) will be aware that I often become obsessed with details in the background...and today is no different.

There's a band or musical group in the background, and the squeeze-box is easy to spot.

But what are the other two guys playing? It looks like some sort of snorkel-kazzoo, or maybe some sort of jew's harp?

Can anyone help?

Not every slide set I have is just funny looking kids, interesting old churches, and men holding fish.

No, sometimes it's a set of amateur (model and/or photographer) pictures of bikinis in the sunshine. And who am I to complain about that !  

From extensive study of these pictures, the location for these shots would appear to be Balmedie Beach, just north of Aberdeen. The strong sunshine was an obvious clue.

The Dolph Hotel

Most folk assume that this is a 1970's slide of the Dolphin Hotel in Southampton, and most folk are almost right.

This is actually The Dolph Hotel, which was named in 1767 for the yet-to-be-born actor Dolph Lundgren. As your'll see from the comparable view from Google, things don't change much in Southampton
