Why?

Why would anyone take this slide...and keep it?

I can only assume it was forward planning, from 61 years ago, with the aim of bamboozling a future blogger. Me.

Bonus - 

Not Escher's Belvedere

 

There must be something wrong with my brain, but when I look at this slide, I immediately thought of MC Escher, the Dutch artist.

There are elements of Belvedere  in there, and the stairs obviously evoke Ascending and Descending, but overall.... it's not impossible.
