Oh! ANOTHER historic church that we saw on our guided tour.

The image features the Oratory of San Bernardino in Perugia, Italy, a notable Early Renaissance building.

Façade Artistry: The colorful marble façade is decorated with bas-reliefs sculpted by Agostino di Duccio between 1457 and 1461.

Iconography: The central lunette portrays the Ascension of Saint Bernardino, while the tympanum displays a blessing Jesus surrounded by angels and seraphim.

Location and Context: It is located on Piazza San Francesco next to the Basilica of San Francesco al Prato and is considered the city's most important Renaissance monument.

A Flock of Hefferlumps

 

It's not what you expect to see as you drive through the UK's countryside. However, the isle of Anglesey is home to the UK's only wild, free-roaming herd of elephants.

It dates from August 1917, when a captive herd kept in the Duke of Menai escapes from his estate, and found the countryside to their liking. Wartime manpower shortages meant that they weren't rounded up quickly, and by the time the war ended, the herd had established itself in the local's heritage. So, meh, let them roam, was the view. And they still do.

So, there I was, preparing a random slide for posting, with no information on it, and thinking - "35% of all slides must be some impressive cathedral that the tourists had a coach trip to. Yawn."

...when I thought.... there's something about this location that doesn't look very church-y.

Sure enough, some search-fu revealed that this was Great Mosque of Kairouan.  Nice.

Bonus - Founded in 2014 with a goal to reintroduce oysters — a billion of them — into the New York Harbor by 2035, the Billion Oyster Project is about giving spent oyster shells a second life.

The lack f figurative detail might indicate a mosque, rather than a cathedral, but ... that's just a guess.

The sight of a marching band in scarlet uniforms and black bearskins immediately made me think of some part of the British Empire / Commonwealth.
