A Springtime Wedding

Wedding outfits are often immune to the whims of fashions. The bride's dress is timeless and classic, and the Father Of The Bride wears a fairly standard three-piece suit.

But velvet Bridesmaids' dresses, and the guest with an oversize black bow tie. It could only be the Seventies.  1977, to be precise.  No punk fashions for these church-goers, but later that evening...?

So Unfashionable That It's Fashionable.

Wow.  Those are some bold wedding fashion choises.

The Grooms wide lapel suit, kipper tie and Porn Star moustache.

The Gothic Death Metal Bridesmaid backing singers.

Bride's pure white dress with matching polar bear fur cape with a hood.

Awesome.

Dated July 1972, but looks more suitable to winter or colder months.

Bonus - Just been listening to Johnny Cash - at Folsom Prison. Fantastic stuff.

The Bridal Spare

That was the tradition in Doncaster.

There was always a risk that the bride would say "I Don't" at the critical point. At which point, a pre-prepared Spare would be wheeled in, and after a quick move of the veil, the back-up would step up.

In this slide Gladys Harper (on the left) got cold feet, and Mavis Farnsworth (with the veil) stepped into the breach.

These reserve brides were usually on a 6-month contract, after which they would be on their way out....with a hefty cheque, or 60 head of sheep...depending upon contractual terms.

Friday Bridal Fashion

Springtime, and a couple's fancy turns to ... Fashion.

Especially, Wedding outfits.

Another European Bride.

After yesterday's thunderous response to a Continental Wedding, let's have another.

This time, the slide says Helsinki Wedding at Underground Church Jane 1987.

Which is nice.

The Bride of Röthis

All that was on this slide was "Rothis Bride", but I'm 97% certain that they're referring to Röthis in Austria.

Probably just a grabbed image from a passer-by photographer. Who and when?  I dunno.

The Look of Lust

The St Valentine's Day celebration continues.

And from 1972, Eddie and Shazza get married on the most romantic of days. SVD

And Shazza is rocking that pure white hooded cape. Yeah, pure white. Sure.

"When Our Carol Got Married..."

"ay, she looked all reet.

That Norman Wickerstaff turned out to be a bit of a wet blanket.  After the divorce, he went off to share a flat with a Hairdresser from Leeds, if you know what I mean."

Bonus - It’s illegal to burn a body in a floating boat anywhere in the U.S., and a single town in Colorado is the only place in the country where you can legally burn a corpse on a dry-land funeral pyres.

The popular conception of what are commonly called “Viking” funerals – a flaming longship – aren’t historically accurate anyway […] “They (Vikings) were more likely to drag the boat ashore and burn it on dry land with the chieftain’s body and his possessions inside, or just bury the entire boat without setting it on fire,” Pray told Cowboy State Daily.

And The Bride Wore ... Lemon

Been a while since the last visit to a New York Bridal Fashion Show of 1970, so here we have Melody wearing a Yellow Wedding Dress.

Really?  Yellow ?    Why?

Welcome to Black Friday

For Black Friday, I toyed with the idea of just posting a un-exposed slide as a prank.
But that would be unethical. And un-funny.

So, today's  slide comes from the "Sid's Wedding" selection, where they were all massively underexposed. As you can see.
The big image is the "As Scanned" image, which will even include a little bit of the scanner trying to correct the darkness.
Alas, even serious tweaking of the brightness / contrast / curve achieves little. (Small image.)

Bonus - Can you imagine the Black Mood of the bride, upon seeing this was the only record of her wedding. :-D

Fine Day for a Wedding

Had a new box of old slides delivered a few days ago, and yesterday I scanned them in. Mostly dull, but this was one of the better ones. Slide is marked Sept 1967, so... 55 years ago :-)

Synchronicity. Today, my Sis and B-i-L are off at a wedding in sunny (?) Derbyshire. I wonder how fashions have changed then to now.

Terri's Torpedo Tits

I am reliably informed, that this phenomenon is informally known as Torpedo Tits, and is the result of the then-fashionable "Rounds Them Up and Point Them Forward" bra design.   Admittedly, using it for a wedding dress, and with anonymizing sunglasses makes me suspicious that this is some odd retro-porn set-up.

Must be Wedding Season

Yes, it's always time for a wedding pics. No info on this slide, but looking at the sign on the back, I think one says "Greetings and Best Wishes for the Mayor and Citizens of Lyttleton New Zealand 1967"

What better reason to wrap a dead, skinned furry animal around your shoulders and meet the Bride in the frilly frilled dress.

A Fine Saturday for a Wedding

And for once, I'm not going to make up some sarcastic details about these folks.

Bonus - I went to the store and said to the worker, "I need a battery so I can tell the time."

He asked, "Is it for a clock?"

I answered..."I don't know! That's why I need the battery!"

Wedding Fashion - 1974

From June 1974,Wendy O'Toole, and the nieces Lulu and Laura show what the well-dressed wedding team are wearing in 1974. And it sympathy with the austere times, the bride's gown is recycled from a freshly laundered tablecloth, and the flowergirls are wearing a repuposed pair of grannies curtains.

Wedding Season is Upon Us

Two weeks into March, so it's time for the ramping up if weddings.

Today, we remember The wedding of ... ummm. No Info.  The Wedding of Cheryl and Gavin.  (They look like a Gavin and Cheryl). And the best man is called "Malc".  Not Malcom,  "Malc".

Are my prejudices showing?

Just Married

So much nostalgia here, with the usual frustrating lack of information.

I'm no expert of bridal fashions, but that does shout early sixties to me.

White tuxedo for the groom (tacky?) and a plain buzz-cut haircut sort of matches up.

Photographer with old-fashioned flash-bulb camera... yeah !

But, the name above the church door - "Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, should help the research Indeed, Google turns up three of them in USA...but none look like this. Damn.

The Bridal Show

" And here we have the blushing bride Melody. She's wearing a lovely dress of insect-processed mulberry leaves, also known as silk, and a veil which has been made made underpaid slave labour in a Mexican sweatshop.

And don't get me started on that mauve monstrosity that the slutty bridesmaid is wearing."

Congratulation to Kim The Bride

Special Congrats to my friend Kim, who seems to have quietly married her soul-mate Andrew in the past few days.  Well Done Princess !

This slide, is NOT Kim. It is Daphne, from Des Moines in 1958. Apparently.

Bonus - Gulp!

The Wedding Party

Sometimes, it's just nice to post a slide without any sarcastic or misleading comments.

Bonus - If this year has taught us anything, it’s that Donald Trump is a regular American citizen.

He caught COVID-19, has massive debt, has five kids by three different women, is about to be evicted from his house and is going to lose his job.
