Today's is from May 1968, but the reason and location is unknown.

I've previously mentioned that Americans love fishing and parades, with numerous slides for both events.

Well, America doesn't have the monopoly on street parades, and this slide dates from 1970s England (I think).

Back when wine drinking was still frightfully posh, so the vintners took any opportunity to promote their vinos.

This slide, from October 1958, seems to be a float for Giesel's / Ziesel's / Fiesel's department store, and features some sensible, well tailored outfits. Very Classy.

Graduation - City of South Gate

 

After checking my bulging sack (doctor's orders) I found that I had very nearly one letter asking for more 1963 Rose Parade float slides.

And thus, here's another one.  From the City of South Gate, which rather ironic as it became known as the "Azalea City" when it adopted the flower as its symbol in 1965. Maybe it was a bad experience with this Rose Parade that led to that change of flower.

It's also the home of Cypress Hill, the Rap Group. Where do these botanical connections stop?

A little break from the Christmas-y slides, tho' still seems seasonal.

American do love a parade, and I suspect this is another New Years Day parade.

Some googling suggest that this is Verne Orr Motors in Pasadena, California, and the window display suggests that this is from late 1952 or early 1953.  Verne Orr later went on to be Ronald Reagan's Secretary of the Air Force.  Verne may be disgusted to know that the showroom now is home to Jaguar cars.  Damned Furriners.

It this case, the float seems to be labelled "CU Alumnites Action" ...but Google turns up nowt on that search.

I'm guessing that CU is not Cambridge University in the UK, so I'm guessing Colorado....but as usual, your comments are welcomed.

Sofia and The Festival of St Cyril

Followers of any of the great religions will realise that Sofia is in the parade before the Feast Day Celebration of St Cyril (The Duck Saviour).

His unusual moniker comes from the miracle that he performed, when he re-animated a duck which had been killed, stuffed, roasted in an oven and served in shallot and grape sauce.
The duck then flew off, only to be caught and torn assunder by a passing osprey.

But the miracle stood, and Cyril was canonised and made the Patron Saint of Ducks and other aquatic Anatidae wildfowl.
