I know that today is Tedious Tuesday, and this slide isn't actually tedious or boring, but ... its ineptness is worthy of highlighting.

What would be a nice little image is spoiled by the photographer's inability to actually point the camera high enough to capture the (presumably) happy faces.

June is Graduation Season, so this slide for sixty-ish years ago seems appropriate.

I'm guessing that Hank (he looks like a Hank) is annoyed be something. Maybe only getting a 2.2. Maybe having to wear dark blue in the baking sunshine. Maybe his bow tiie no longer spins.

But...he's not happy.

That Jacket ... WOW!

 

From the present time, 2026 for those who are time-travelling, there is a temptation to think of the late fifties as a very staid, boring, conformist in fashion, music and opinion. Just wait for the Summer Of Love and Hippies to arrive, that'll shake things up.

And then you see things like this lad's jacket. Yes, it's a tailored jacket work with smart pants, but ... Wow ! That's quite a statement.

The manually corrected slide, passed to an online AI service, and told to "Sort IT"  tho with more guidance. Impressive

So at this year's SlideFest (What? You weren't there?) one common question was on how much I edit the slides. Normally, as little as possible. A little correction of contrast levels, or a little straightening. Usually a little cropping (for ....reasons), but nothing dramatic.

But, some old slides, particularly Ektachrome / E6 process slides, can develop a severe colour-cast. And the results can be Yeuch. So, I sometimes correct them, or just extra a single colour element, and use them as monochrome slides. 

But today, I thought I'd show you before and after, and illustrate what Artificial Intelligence can do.

A very early-seventies wedding dress ... I believe that capes are "out" nowadays. And that overlong dress is likely to assist in Wilma's loss of footing and tumble.

Today's slide, reflects this joyful time, with a slide from 1971's Guildford. Mmmmm. Hats on Old Bats.

December 10th is the day that Mrs Gladys Van Winkel puts out her Christmas wreath.

How ironic that 3 months later, she was consumed by a post-hibernation black bear.

June 1964, and someone thought that it was a good idea to wear a pink two-piece, just a few months after Jackie Kennedy wore a similar outfit in Dallas.

A Real Vintage One

 

This was an odd set of slides.

A set of black n white negatives, mounted in slide frames.  And allegedly dating from 1937 America.

Very odd. Quite a few motor cars and motorcycles, and they do appear "of that era."  Especially true for this bike and sidecar combo.

At Home With The Hunter

 

As is often the case, it's fascinating trying to build a narrative from the small details in the slide.  In this case, there's a host of little observations.

The elephant tusks around the fireplace, the (possible) buffalo head above the fire, the zebra skin cushions, the cushion with a giraffe, the Desert Pattern Camo curtains. Yes, I'm sure that that plaid shirt guy is one of those "I shoot wild animals for sport" nutters. Showing off to a couple of visiting relatives.
