Cascade

Finally, England's hot spell has broken, and we have rain.  It seems strange for England to welcome the rain, but ... weird time.

I don't think this image of a recent English mountain stream, because a/ England has no mountains, b/ the image dates to 1984, and c/ AI Suggests

"The image shows the cascading waters of the Canaima National Park region in Venezuela, featuring powerful tea-colored rapids rushing over dark rock formations with distant tabletop tepui mountains on the horizon.

Location: Canaima National Park, La Gran Sabana, Venezuela.

Key Features: Rushing amber-tinted river waters, layered stone terraces, and distinctive flat-topped tepui mountain formations in the background. "

The Beach Scene

At work today (Yes, I still work), the place seemed empty with so many folk slacking off, on holiday in X, Y and Z.

Fine, suits me.

So, here's a nice beach scene to make you think of holidays, sand fleas, and noisy Magyars shouting at each other.

No idea where this is, but it's probably not Iceland.

It's Art, Dudes

A bit conflicted in this slide. Sure, a slide of a framed picture sounds like Tedious Tuesday fodder, but...

...It's cool.

According to what was writ on the slide, "Jun-85 Bali, Ubud Museum".

...and that lead to this website

Yotting (spelled "Yachting")

One of the strangest spellings in the English language, but ... whatever.

Looks like a decent way to cool down in this heatwave.

One more chapter and then I'll put the light out.

Written on the slide was "Abbey de Fontevraud - Eleanor de Aquitaine"

This is the 13th-century painted stone tomb effigy of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine located at Fontevraud Abbey in France. Eleanor of Aquitaine (c. 1122–1204) was a powerful medieval ruler who served as queen consort of both France and England. Unlike standard medieval tomb figures that showed people with hands folded in passive prayer, this sculpture unusually portrays her reading a book. Location: The colourful sculpture rests in the abbey church alongside the tombs of her husband, King Henry II, and her son, Richard the Lionheart.

A-ha ! I caught you a... Oh.

Acting on his suspicions, Mr Hank Flibble burst into his daughter's bedroom with flash-bulbs blazing.

Alas, Dorothy and boyfriend Seymour...calming discussing the events of the day.

Damn.

Waiting for the Eclipse

The big news (comparatively) here in the UK today is the arrival of a Partial Solar Eclipse.

I'm expecting that around 90% totality here at Slide Central.  Iceland and Spain get 100% coverage...another Brexit Bonus (haar haar.)

So, her is Marjorie, ready with her Box Brownie camera, ready to capture the spectacle.

Alas, this slide is from 1953, so she's going to have a long wit.

Streetwalking to Hillwalking.

After 45 years of walking the streets in the red light district of Stenhousemuir, Lorna needed a change. "I'm tired to stretching my legs just to earn a few shillings."

So, Lorna then took up hill-walking, meaning she stretches her legs for free now.

And next year, she hopes to bag her first Munro.

Just East of Thetford

Not a lot of people know this.

During WW2, the Royal Navy ship HMS Scurrilous intercepted a troopship heading toward Mindanao, and captures the Japanese Army's 433rd Contractor Battalion. Britain hadn't expected to capture many Japanese folks (you know ... Seppuku, etc) to had to ship them back to a camp in Thetford in Norfolk.

Rather than twiddle their thumbs, the Japanese Engineers obtained permission to feel trees from Thetford Forest, and used them to built an 80% scale replica of   the Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto, Japan, featuring its distinctive traditional architecture with dark wooden structures and tiled roofs. The image showcases the expansive courtyard area between the main temple halls and the large Founder's Hall Gate (Goei-do Mon) in the background.

After the war, the Japanese returned to Japan, and the buildings were used for concerts, parties and Summer Fayres.  Alas, maintenance was neglected, and the building were torn down in 1961, and the timber used for firewood.  Very little remains to be seen.

Colourful Architecture

This image depicts the Cité de Refuge, a historic Salvation Army hostel located at 12 Rue Cantagrel in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, France. The building was designed by the renowned modernist architect Le Corbusier in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and was constructed between 1929 and 1933. It is celebrated as a significant monument of the modern architectural movement, featuring a bold concrete block design and a distinctive facade.

End of the Week.

Time to change out of that office sui, and find a small cafe-bar for some beer.

If my eye is correct, this photo depicts the historic Palais de l'Isle, a unique 12th-century building situated on an island in the Thiou river in Annecy, France. The structure has served multiple purposes throughout history, including as a prison, courthouse, and administrative headquarters, and currently operates as a local history museum. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the old town of Annecy, often referred to as the "Venice of the Alps" due to its canals and river. Today

Or maybe it's Conway in Wales.

Ken and his Ladies

Ken Worthing had a bit of a reputation as "A Ladies' Man", and this slide helps prove the legend.

Not only Foxy Fiona and Luscious Louise, but the photo was taken by Busty Babs. No wonder Ken was banned from every Woolworths' store in Cornwall.

I'm Back - At The Beach

Yes. I'm back posting slides. Again.

I have been deficient in the past month, due to a crisis on my home planet, which is now sorted...and because.... fatigue.

So, let's welcome in August with an exciting new Holiday Beach Visit slide.

I'm guessing early 1970's but ....wherever.
