Marilyn Abers: The Pool

 

There was no written info on the slide, other than "ACM Siggraph".

But, it doesn't take a genius to know that that means the SIGGRAPH 1983: Exhibition of Computer Art, and their decent archives allowed a rapid identification of this as Marilyn Abers' artwork The Pool.

Fascinating to see how leading edge computer graphics have advanced in 41 years.

This is Nebraska Annie.

In the 1970's, if you were buying equine-related products (whether oats, or saddles, or hoof polish), there was a fair chance that Nebraska Annie was the horse featured on the packaging.

Whether the promo image was of a bay, a white, or an-all black horse, there was a good chance that it was Annie under the hair colour. Annie was the Supermodel of Equine Advertising.

Sadly, after younger foals took the spotlight, Annie's fortunes faded. Badly.

Important Benefits of the Automatic Rotating Tourniquet

 

In case you're wondering :

The application of blood pressure cuffs to three extremities; formerly used in certain types of medical emergencies, such as acute pulmonary edema, to reduce the return of blood to the heart. The patient is placed in a head-high position (Fowler's). The pressure is kept midway between systolic and diastolic. Every 10 min, the cuffs are deflated and when inflated, the previously free extremity is now used. This allows each extremity to be free of a tourniquet for 10 min out of each 40-min cycle.

Note A cuff would not be applied to an extremity into which an intravenous infusion is running.

Closer inspection reveals that it's the entrance to the Grosvenor Hotel, and it's Ballroom (on Floor 2A).

While utterly tedious, there is the mystery of where this Grosvenor Hotel actually is. The obvious candidate in London is actually The Grosvenor House Hotel.
