One of those slides that just appears with nowt but a date (June 1985), but it intrigues me. So....what and where?

In case it's of interest, he'smy thought process.

In the background - "Barley Brewery". That leads to a site saying it's defunct...but saying it was in the village of Barley, and giving a postcode.

So, then it's easy to Google, and see that 38 years later, there's still a Fox and Hounds pub there.   And, Street view shows that nothing much has changed. 

Oh, and kids.... the petrol station on the left, in 1985. That's £1.65 per Gallon.

Bonus - Florida man whose arm was ripped off by 10-foot gator, was peeing in pond because bar line was too long.

It Was 35 Years Ago

 

It was Summer 1987 when Mavis Enderby enjoyed her final cigarette.

She was in The Snug of the Jolly Submariner Hotel in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, and Mavis was enjoying a Capstan Full-Tar ciggie.

Seconds later, she was engulfed in flame, and died in seconds. Some say it was a stray ember igniting her control-top pantyhose, but other said it was spontaneous human combustion. We may never know.

The Queens Head

A nostalgic view of an old pub (or at least, the sign of an old pub) from a time that little villages were not crammed ith parked cars.

It looks like The Queens Head is a tied pub, part of the Charles Wells of Bedford  chain. I've not tracked down where this pub is, or most likely WAS, knowing how many pubs have disappeared, but you (dear reader) might want to.

One of the big clues would be the road sign on the left.

Bonus - So, England lost at the Euro Football Final. I do feel sorry for the England players, but I don't feel sorry for the portion of the supporters who were utter scum.

OK, pubs in themselves are not dull and tedious (usually),  but taking pictures of them (in the 1980's I guess, but before Google Streetview), that's a fairly dull activity.

Still, with a slide with no info on it, there is the fun of figuring out that this pub is in the Castleford region of Yorkshire. And the second image is of the current Google Streetview...view.
