Alas, this was a very under-exposed slide, so getting any sort of image out of it was difficult.

So, why did the photographer keep this one?

There's a clue written on the slide - "1964 Me in Waterlow Park".

We photographers didn't take many self-portraits back in the days of  35mm slides.  Nowadays, with digital images, it's an epidemic.

A Simpler Time

 

Of course, not everyone can have a wildly expensive and expansive Christmas. Not everyone has the money / space for an eight foot tree and dozens of presents underneath.

But for everyone, Christmas can be a magical time, especially with the family involved. And those curtains.

It may not look like the M1 Motorway, but these sunken paths were often the main paths between towns and village sin medieval Britain.

No info on this slide, except for a date of October 1967. From the selection of cars, my first thought was "That must be London."

But I was wrong.

With a bit of investigating, I believe that this is actually Dublin in Eire. The "Happy Ring" building was strangely of little help...initially, but did eventually help after finding this image.

That Looks Familiar

 

Something familiar from my childhood.

Yes, I know what you're thinking - Isn't that St Giles' Church Of Scotland, on High Street, Elgin, Morayshire.

And you're right. And there's a very similar shot here, even down to the Two Timspons. 

But the eagle-eyed will notice a difference. The feature at the top of the tower has been removed between the two images.

Not me, as in this blogger, obviously.

This girl certainly looks "beat", so I'm guessing she had a suitably fitting name - Flip or Kath, or Mizzy.

With the end of British Summer Time, it is now officially Autumn. Or for our American readers, "Autumn".

The time of golden trees, slight chills in the air, thick comforting soups and warm crackling fires.

Filling Station

 

One of those slides that just appears with nowt but a date (June 1985), but it intrigues me. So....what and where?

In case it's of interest, he'smy thought process.

In the background - "Barley Brewery". That leads to a site saying it's defunct...but saying it was in the village of Barley, and giving a postcode.

So, then it's easy to Google, and see that 38 years later, there's still a Fox and Hounds pub there.   And, Street view shows that nothing much has changed. 

Oh, and kids.... the petrol station on the left, in 1985. That's £1.65 per Gallon.
