A Floating Dry-Dock?

 

Curious. This box had a series of Slide Mounts, each with a 35mm Black and White negative mounted in them. How rare. The seller claimed that they dated from 1937...and that might be reasonable.

This image had no description, but appears to be a floating dry-dock, so... COULD be the USS ARD-1. Or maybe something else.

Today's tedious slide was selected from the box marked "Rotten Holiday", and my initial thought was "That's possibly The Rock of Gibraltar."

But, No. It's a completely different shape.

Any suggestions?

The only info on this slide was "Oaxaca 1984", so ... Mexico, and some sort of market.

But what is the product?  Bread? Leather?  Tortilla?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Regular readers (both of them) will be aware that I often become obsessed with details in the background...and today is no different.

There's a band or musical group in the background, and the squeeze-box is easy to spot.

But what are the other two guys playing? It looks like some sort of snorkel-kazzoo, or maybe some sort of jew's harp?

Can anyone help?

Clearly, there is a facial resemblance of L Ron Hubbard of those wacky old, Scientologists ... tho' this may be a relation rather than LRH himself.   But what of the items in the background.  Why would someone have a bowl of Sump Oil on top of their clothes dryer?

My theory is that a long cross-country family road-trip has lead to epic constipation. After 14 days, Cathy "felt the urge", and disappeared into the woods. An hour later, and 6 lb lighter, she's returning to find Ma n Pa marking the moment.

The One-Person Tipper

Maybe it's a form of OCD, but sometimes a relatively dull slide intrigues me, and makes me think.

For Example - This slide of a tipper truck offloading it's load of asphalt.

Every other road-going tipper truck I've seen has a normal, two or three-person drivers cab.   What's the reasoning for this one having only space for the driver?

One of the delights of Slide Blogging, other that the joy of meeting my hundreds of readers (Don't forget SlideGuyFest 2018 is coming - tickets being posted soon) is the capability to be suprised and intrigued.

Preparing this slide, I thought a quick Googling would reveal where Amaritoit was.

Nope.    Amaritoit wasn't recognised.     Any suggestions ?

To this day, there is no clear story about what happened at Pier 17 that day.
One picture remains, and it seems to show the two suspects packing away some apparatus - Fishing Rod?  Camera Tripod?    Large Hadron Collider? - but what happened next - no-one knows.   Or at least, no-one is admitting to knowing.

It's Architecture Time !

A very black slide, with no information on it. Which is a pity, as I rather like this structure.

I'm guessing it's a public building, and the geometrical style make me thing Islam or the Middle East. Or maybe Moorish influences in Spain.

Anyone got an educated guess??
