The Power Of Rain

In the middle of a set of very normal slides (Babies, parties, gardens, scenery, etc) was this title slide.

How odd !

Quack !

Nothing much to say, except that this male White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala) is called Colin.

Bonus - A Jehovahs witness knocked on my door yesterday

So I invited him in and made him a cup of tea and sat him down at my table.

I asked him what he wanted to talk about and he replied with “I’m fucked if I know I haven’t got this far before“

Feeding The Ducks

Formerly a good old traditional British activity for the weekend, it's been banned because of bleedin' 'Elf n Safety.  Tony Bliar and co declared it non-PC, yet he allowed millions of furriners to come into...

Sorry.

My computer was it Daily Mail mode.

Now sorted.

The Search For Water

From a box of slides charting a "once in a Lifetime" tour of South America, this slide had the scrawled description "Children climb the hillside with pails to get water".

Wherever there is moisture, warmth and time, fungus can attack.

Here, Jamie the wake-board, surf-boy is being attacked by some sort of mildew cloud thing.

Mountain Stream, Hirnant

Not every slide deserves ridicule or mocking.

This is a nice little image of a mountain stream, which seems to be in the region of Hirnant (judging by the composition of the stones and quality of teh water.)

Seaman (2nd Class) Arnold J Rimmer

They say that every soldier carries a Field Marshall's baton in his knapsack.

However, Water Fountain Servicing Technician Arnold J Rimmer carries a copy of the US Navy's Guidebook "So You Made It To Fleet Commodore" in his kit-bag, just in case of an in-field promotion.

The Moldovan Punchbowl.

Today's slide is a bit of a cultural joke, for those in the know. The unknown swingers in the picture are standing in front of an item known as the "Moldovan Punchbowl".

It a fairly elaborate horse trough, but in Bratislava, they are referred to as The Moldovan Punchbowl as a slide aside, hinting at how Bratislavans view the quality of Moldovan wine.

Making this comparison in Chisinau will likely get you a well-deserved kick up te arse.

The Kettle

"The Kettle" ?

Yes, that's what I call it.

Why?

Because it's a Water 'Otter.

I thank you, I'm here all week.

Interesting / Not Interesting

This is one of those Dichotomy slides.

Interesting: From the sequence of slides, honest hard-working locals ("Yokels") gather to see a school of fish (Carp?  Bream?) in a feeding frenzy.  Definitely interesting.

Not Interesting - Muddy water with something at  the surface. Not very interesting.

Bonus - Music Revenue History.

Quite Moist

The past few weekend in the UK have seem storms, localised flooding and general grumpiness about weather.

So, this image seemed appropriate.  No date or other info, but....is that a Triumph Herald??

The Dam Spillway

Although I'm not a Civil Engineer (in fact some say that I'm an uncouth engineer :-) ) I've always been fascinated by dams and reservoirs.   Huge constructions, which when completed, give very little clue of their existence.

Sometimes, it's just spillways such as this.

Drifting Downstream

"It was a sunny day in 1958 when Uncle Ken decided to try the li-lo. He seemed happy and was drifting around in the sun, but he was taken away by a fast moving stream.

This was our last sighting of him as he drifted downstream.  We often wondered where he ended up."

Truth be told, we has spotted in Ogdenville a few weeks later with a young lady and a small child. When approached he pretended to speak only Bulgarian...but the family suspected the truth...

Big Horse With A Quiff

You know, it's difficult to come up with copy to go with these slides.  It sort of makes me appreciative of the creativity of newspaper hack being presented with another picture of Kim Kardasheun, and told "we need 450 words to go with that."

I suppose if I followed that approach, the Daily Mail version of this post would be...

The Internet was stunned when Big Horse With A Quiff refused to disclose his relationship with pint-sized pop tart Ariana Grande. After being lead to water, the quadruped drank quietly and did react when accused with...

Willow Tree Fountain

Once again, all it took was a quick glance at this slide, and I said "I know that ".

Today has been the hottest July day in Britain, since records began, with temperatures hitting 38.1ºC in Cambridge.

While I had the luxury of an air-conditioned office (Yay for me), it would have been most pleasant to sit under this Willow Tree Fountain in Chatsworth Park in Derbyshire.
