Mike's Retirement Meal

No wonder he looks happy. Today is Mike's last day as Richard Nixon's Frog-Stuffer.

One of the more obscure roles in the US Presidential Staff, even now, I cannot reveal what the role entails.

But he's happy to stop.

An Ode to an Ode - Part 6

A return to the Ode for an Ode set.

I've explained the origin before, but this is another from the resident cartoonist / illustrator at West Midlands Gas Board.

Bonus 2 - A-ha!  Since last Ode post, there's now a FaceBook group for WMGB.

Bonus 2 - I'd never thought about that, but Crabs Can Swim !

Wilbur, Living His Dream

After retirement, every Thursday and Sunday, Wilbur <Name Redacted> gets in his car, and drives 12 miles down to the riverbank, and spends an hour shouting incoherently at the seagulls and pigeons.

Eventually, all the birds leave. He then gets back in his car, with a wide grin, and drives back home. It's what he wants, and who am I to criticise.

Arthur, Living The Dream

After a lifetime of work, slogging in the Paprika mines of Wisconsin, Arthur enjoys his retirement on his speedboat "The Saucy Slaughter-Girl".

Bonus - bears at Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in Montana have jobs: try to open coolers / dumpsters / containers of treats. If bears can't make more than a tiny hole, the item is certified bear-proof. The GWDC is the only place where products can earn a certificate from the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee.

Last Day In The Office

No, Not Me !

This bloke. Mr Henry Crump. Chief Executive Officer of Bothwick Baths inc.

Here he  is with Chief Accountant Albert Albertson, and Secretary / PA / Model for the enamel bath range - Mrs Edith Scronk.

The original slide had an overpowered red cast , but it looks OK as a sepia tinted slide.

Bonus.  UK has 40,000 Coronavirus deaths, the economy is tanked, and prospects are bleak.   We need something to make us laugh.

An Ode To An Ode - Part 4

Returning to the "An Ode to and Ode" selection, here's a tedious slide that was probably an integral and hilarious part of the narrative.

But, out of context, tedious.

Bonus - Clever advert from Norwegian Air Services, especially for us flag enthusiasts.

An Ode To An Ode - Part 3

Something a bit different here. Came across a box of slides marked as "An Ode to an Ode". Using  my well hidden deductive powers, and a few scrawled words on some of the slides, I believe that they represent a Retirement presentation / speech to a Gordon Pomlett, who until Feb 1974 was a Manager for the Central District of West Midlands Gas. There's pictures, cartoons and text tracing Gordon's life from 1917, though apprenticeship, war, employment, marriage and leisure.

I could post all 40 slides....but I won't. But will post a trio of slides. This is number three.

Bonus  - Oh No. I think the science geek in me is gonna visit this site quite often.  What if a huge mountain had the bottom inch of its base disappear?
