Yes, before the modern "Christmas Market" industry with it's £10 coffees and £20 mulled wine, the real Christmas Markets were in the Middle East, and involved farting donkeys infusing mango stalls with a special odour. 

And I don't mean Myrrh.

I presumed that the sign "refresco nogar" would help searching, but that translates as "Walnut Soda", which sounds unlikely. Refresco is a big drinks brand, worldwide, so...no help.

Weekend Market

 

Having just done my weekly shop in another identikit warehouse supermarket, this slide made me smile. Of course we all hanker for the fresh produce of a local market, but ... it's easier to support Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys etc. Sigh.

There are probably hundreds of tourists photos which are very vert similar to this.

There are probably hundreds of tourists who have told friends and neighbours that they really wish they had this rather that Tesco or Waitrose.

Those tourists are, of course, lying. A quick dose of typhoid or cholera, and they'd be screaming for safe, reliable Sainsburys.

The only info on this slide was "Oaxaca 1984", so ... Mexico, and some sort of market.

But what is the product?  Bread? Leather?  Tortilla?

Any advice would be welcomed.

Although this slide was in a box full of South American Exploration slides, I don't think that this is taken in South America.

It's interesting to note how few navigable rivers there are in South America, and how that has rather restricted population growth and industry to the coastline. The Amazon being a rather large exception.

A vibrant street market i ... well, I'm not sure. Sure it was in a box of slides from a Brazilian / Argentine expedition, but... it could just as easily be Kenya, or Bakewell.
