If you hailed from Aylesbury, you would already know that today (the second Friday in June) is Duck Day.

It's a local holiday, dating from 1363, celebrating the contribution that ducks made to the local economy. From their eggs (omelettes), to their meat(for stir fries) to their feathers (The Aylesbury Pillow Collective), ducks were the driver for Aylesbury's wealth.

Even their feet were used, for waterproofing deerstalker hats. No waste here.

It's unlikely to be a long term thread, but just randomly dipping into the slide selection today, and this was about the third slide that turned up.

Here's an interesting facts.  In most Western European cultures, rooks and ravens are seen as harbingers of doom / foretellers of death / etc.

In Finland, that cultural icon position is taken by the duck.   The arrival of a duck in your garden is a VERY bad omen.

Harold's Duck Obsessions

This is Harold. Harold has a problem.
For years, Harold has spent is weekends coaxing ducks within reach, then stuffing the little blighters into his rucksack.
What he does with them, isn't really fit for publishing in this blog. However, the Chinese Restaurant does a very economical Crispy Fried Duck, so I have my suspicions.
