It seems so familiar, but so alien nowadays, but this is how people worked just a few decades ago. The things that caught me eye...

• Packet of Smokes on the desk.
• Proper Adding Machine.
• Rotary Dial on the mini-telephone-switchboard.
• Paper, not computers.
• Paper filing systems.

Ah.  Memories.

This is Me, Working From Home.

In response to very nearly one request, this is a selfie of me, working from home due to the current CoronaVirus lockdown.

As you can see, the facial fuzz has gone, and my usual "Work-Day = Tie-Day" outfit has been abandoned. Just be grateful that I didn't photograph "Naked Thursday".

How Gravel Is Made

That gravel on your driveway - have you ever wondered where it comes from?

Across the world, lowly paid mothers spend up to 190 hours a week breaking boulders into smaller and smaller parts. Then, the best, most attractive, pebbles are selected and shipped to a acility in Guadeloupe, where the inputs from 45 different locations are mixed according to a dealers requirements. Bagged, and labelled, the fresh gravel is then shipped to you.

Phew.

It's a tough life being a professional winkle-picker.  Roy Thompson (shown in the adjacent picture) can travel for days after a tip-off of winkles being spotted...only to be disappointed when it turns out to be just a limpet.

A rather intriguing slide.

The activity. We've had plenty of slides of fishermen and their fish... but what's happening here?
A filleted fish, obviously, but what's happening on those grids in the background?

 I'm guessing Wind Dried Fish...so these could be Scandinavians.

But, what about Leif?

He seems at odds with the background. I expect that the "horizon" should be horizontal, but I guess that Leif should be more upright.

Whichever way I correct it, it looks wrong.

There's something likable about work-place photos. Perhaps it's the contrast to modern offices that makes them special. Typewriters not PCs, offices not cubicles, fans rather than ineffective air-con.   Nice.

Ah yes, the excitement of the job interview. Or at least that's what I think this photo is for. Why else would someone take a picture of the world's most depressing office manager, in the world's most depressing office? Not only is he so important that he doesn't have a telephone, but he does warrant an ash tray.  His biggest worry is whether he can stay awake from 9 to 5...if he doesn't, it's likely his eyes will be skewered on the two pens.  Nice !

NB : All slides deteriorate over time, and some worse than others. This slide was very faded, and had a strange red cast, so apologies for the not-great quality.
