"Mr Herriot, I've lost my watch!"

Unknown location

Yes, the punchline for an old joke/sketch, I expect.

But... the flat caps, the trench coats, the range of cows' posteriors.  The "All Creatures Great And Small" vibes are strong in this one.

The Onion Harvest

Another delightful Half-Frame slide. There's a certain charm to them, but the quality can be quite good.

Obviously, someone's small-holding produced a bumper crop of inions, and this is the way to dry them out for better preservation.

The Common Clay of the Frontier

From their faces, I just know that this pair fought and scraped and battled their way through the US Stockmarket Crash, Depression and the Dustbowl.

Alas, I also hear "You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons."

Bonus - Source

Passing Fields of ... Stuff

The great thing about long national or transnational train journeys is that you have time to just stare out the window, and look at Stuff passing by.

And sometimes you want to record the exceptional scenes, so you can bore your friends and neighbours with blurred images of stuff.

Word of advice ... Don't.

Bonus -If you have trouble with sleeping too much, and are looking for something to keep you awake, worrying about existential dread.... may I recommend The Nutty Putty Cave Horror.

I wish I knew more about geography / geology so that I could figure out where this slide is of.

Alas, I am ignorant.

Bradley The Bullock

Some day, a brilliant children's story book will be written about  the True Story of Bradley The Bullock.

But, the slaughterhouse ending might have to be omitted.

Bonus - Man donated his body to science; company sold $500 tickets to his dissection

Heavy Machinery

No info on the slide, but might be in Hawaii, so could be sugar cane farming.

But, some nice vintage heavy tracked machinery.

Bonus -

if you lined up all of the other planets in the solar system, they would fit almost perfectly between Earth and the Moon.

Manatees regulate buoyancy by farting They eat a ton of plants and accumulate a lot of methane. They then release gas when they want to sink and hold it in when they want to go to the surface or are being polite.

If every person on earth fought 1v1 until there was only 1 winner, that person would only have to win 33 times

Where did you get that hat?

Thus was in a bunch of Peruvian Slides, so I'd like to think that these are the local coca leaves / cocaine sellers, but it could just as easily be Alstroemeria sellers.

Speaking of which,  I could do with some fine, Columbian ... coffee.

Bonus - Eating a piece of cheese is perfectly acceptable, but if you shove a handful of grated cheese in your mouth people look at you like you are a psychopath.

Strange Rural Sculpture

 Strange.  Quite strange.

Who, when, where and what all evades me, tho' I have a suspicion it could be French or French Canadian. Can anyone read the sign on the font? (Enlarged and stretched in adjacent image.)

Bonus - Brain of a white-collar worker

The Scorched Earth

This could just be a case of Ektachrome Slides degrading with time, or the results of an y hot summer, or it could be the results of a deliberate Scorched Earth policy.

While doing some Googling starting from Scorched Earth Policy, that eventually led to an article about Sherman's Neckties.

Bonus - Red Right Hand
Bonus 2 - - BREXIT Explained.

Down on the Farm

I'm getting a "Good Life" vibe from this slide.  A successful family of a former Merchant Banker decide to give up life in Esher to grow turnips in Herefordshire.

I'll give them 2 years before they give up.

Bonus - Fighting depression

UK General Election

Today, foreign readers, is the day of a UK General Election, where we get to choose between a bunch of disreputable shysters, and elect one to represent our interest and squander a load of money, in Parliament.

So as to avoid unduly influencing the outcome, I has selected this exciting slide.  Info written on it...
"Harrison Shirley and Velma - My step-father and step-sister"

Bonus - Birthday present from a Dad.  Sorry, I have something in my eye.
