AI says that it shows a scenic rural landscape, identified as a hiking path leading towards Moel Hebog in Snowdonia National Park, Wales. But, as we know, AI is not always perfect.

As we enter the second half of November, we have now entered Soup Season, and I'm looking to hibernate like a bear.

However, rather than a cave in the woods, I'd be happy with a cosy little cottage like this, with a log fire and plenty of coffee brewing.

Fashion Notes - Ponchos

 

For many decades, ponchos were the stock in trade clothing for Mexican Bandits, and then Mysterious Gringos in Spaghetti Westerns. Then in the late seventies, knitted ponchos became the defacto outerwear for British girls. Heavens knows why.

Here, Sophie and Catherine model some ponchos that mummy made for them.

FINALLY, sunshine has returned to The Shire at a weekend, so today will be a good picnic day.

Like Maureen , backing in 1967, and her trip to Cooper's Creek. Quite why she feels the need to cover her hoo-hah with a hat, is unknown.  Maybe a masonic thing.

Somewhere Exotic.... or Liverpool?

 

The only info on this slide was a date of 1984, but I figured I could work out where this was.

While the weather and building on the right seemed quite exotic, and potentially non-British, the hot air balloons had UK company logos. And "Pork Farms" seemed to be an unlikely international brand. Indeed - UK registered. So, acting on a hunch, I had a search for a particular event from that era, and

Yes, it's the Liverpool International Garden Festival. And that building on the right did exist. (Picture 7 of 40). The Liverpool International Garden Festival in 1984 was an attempt by the Conservative government to bring tourism to Liverpool to try and regenerate the city. And yes, I can even date this to the 28th or 29th July.

No info, but it didn't take much effort to figure out that this is the Dairy Cottage at Belvoir Castle. (Pronounced Beaver...and you can see it peeking above the tree on the right.)

Camping it up in Mid Wales

 

In the days before dayglo, lightweight, tensioned-hoop geodesic dome tents (or whatever) this was a typical campsite set up. And much nicer it was too. 

OK, I may be getting all "Back in my day..." fuddy duddy, but that is my opinion.

...and on that slide was written the single word "Rawdons".

To this day, no-one knew what it meant, or where the image was taken.

Some said in might be Rock of Dunamaise, but others say "Awa' 'n' shite".

We may never know.

It'll come as no surprise that I sometimes have to edit out extraneous details from the slide images. Normally, I don't show the "pre-" images, but as the Official Secrets Acts 45-year news black-out is ending soon, ... see the attached thumbnail.

Low Hanging Cloud

 

At first glance, I thought that this was a photographic error - some light crept into the lower half of the slide film. But, on closer examination...No! it's some low-hanging, dense cloud.

On the slide was the word "Sani", and while it doesn't scream "Greece" to me, it's the best guess of a location that I can give.

Based upon the absolutely cryptic message on the slide : "Talyllyn Rly", I have made the logical leap to guess that this might be The Talyllyn Railway Company, in Snowdonia.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
